Season 2 of Gen V opens with a flashback from 1967 and then jumps to the present, where Jordan and Emma are being hauled away from the Elmira Rehabilitation Center. When they arrive at their final destination, they’re greeted by their friend who betrayed them, Cate. She says Godolkin University was the safest place for them. All they had to do was act as if they didn’t cause the riot (this happens at the end of season 1). Essentially, they had to be Vought International’s puppets.

Cate and Emma begrudgingly accept the terms, but not Cate’s friendship. Cate’s betrayal is partly responsible for Andre’s death. However, she didn’t know he’d died. In fact, she was looking for him and Marie, too. When she confronted the new Dean, Cypher, about Andre, he said he knew. He then made it a point to remind Cate that he is in charge.

Later, Emma and Jordan find Marie and tell her about Andre. As this happens, Cate shows up and tells Marie she needs to return to Godolkin U. When Marie declines, Cate reads her mind and learns that Marie was in contact with Starlight. Cate tries to touch Marie to control her mind, but is stopped by Jordan, who blasts her into a wall. The impact cracks Cate's skull, and she bleeds out and dies...or so we thought. Episode 2 begins, and Cypher says she's alive.

How the season premiere's events could impact the rest of Gen V season 2

When it comes to The Boys, there’s one thing you can count on: There will always be moments that you won’t see coming. Sometimes they’re wild like Herogasm or Homelander taking out an airplane full of people. Other times, a major character dies to further the storyline. That’s what we have with Cate’s storyline.

Cate is a major character in Gen V and The Boys. Her ability to read minds and control people with her touch helped Vought International capture Kimiko and get Frenchie off the board. She was also keeping Sam calm by using her powers to tell him not to feel anything.

With her out of commission, Vought loses an asset and an in with Godolkin. Of course, this is no sweat off their back. They’ll have other people used for torture and find another student to report back to them. The problem that will come into play soon has to do with Sam.

In the season 1 finale of Gen V, Cate used her powers on Sam so he wouldn’t feel emotions. She did this again when he learns Andre was dead. With her gone, Sam will likely start losing his mind and, once again, see puppets instead of people. If he goes too far, Vought will step in and have him killed. Or, maybe Emma takes him out when he becomes too much trouble. If anyone is going to take him down, it should be her. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out.
