The second episode of Harley Quinn season 5 showed us how Pamela Isley became Poison Ivy. Like most villain origins, it started with tragedy and the betrayal of a loved one. In Ivy’s case, it was by her professor and lover, Jason Woodrue. This comes into play after Lena Luthor, Lex’s sister, tells Ivy that they’ll work together.

Lena may not have known about their past, but she could learn during episode 3. Ivy made Woodrue breathe the same fumes that almost killed her. Instead of dying, Woodrue has become the Floronic Man. It'll be hard to hide when you look like a dime-store version of Swamp Thing.

Yes, becoming the Floronic Man is an obvious way to get caught for attempted murder. However, there are a couple of things to take into account. First, and most important, Jason Woodrue will want the credit for what’s happened to him just like he took credit for Ivy’s previous work. Second, it’d make more sense for him to blackmail Ivy.

It’s not that she’s scared of prison. The problem is that Ivy believes in what she’s doing in Metropolis. Being looked at for attempted murder puts a dampener on that. Woodrue is the type of guy who would hold this over Ivy and force her to give him credit for everything. Although, it wouldn’t be shocking if Lena finds out and doesn’t care.

There isn’t much to talk about in terms of Harley Quinn herself. She spent most of her day chasing King Shark’s kids (particularly Shaun). It was mostly shenanigans and blood. The one takeaway from Harley's storyline is that Lena Luthor forced the owner of a fancy club to make Harley a member. It makes you wonder what Lena is up to.

Is Lena buttering Harley and Ivy up? She’s giving them everything they want and then some and justifying it. And while that’s all good, she’s still a Luthor. They don’t do things altruistically. Even if it is for the good of Metropolis, she’s still getting something out of it. We’ll have to wait for the rest of the DC TV show's season to find out what it is.
