Season 5 of Harley Quinn has been an eventful one. First, Harley and Poison Ivy move to Metropolis to begin a new chapter in their life. The next day, Ivy has her first day at work and finds out she has to coexist with her toxic ex-boyfriend and professor, Jason Woodrue. She attempts to kill him and fails, leading to Woodrue becoming the Floronic Man. Shocking to no one, he wants revenge on Ivy.
Jason's career in villainy was short-lived. Because he tried to kill Ivy, Harley cut his head in half. Before the couple can celebrate, Brainiac abducts and imprisons them on his ship. Now they'll have to escape Brainiac's ship and his Automaton Security System (or A.S.S.).
At first, it seemed shocking that Brainiac wasn’t in the second episode of the season. Now, it makes sense. Brainiac is one of the most dangerous villains in any genre, but his story arc shouldn’t last long or take up too much time. He isn’t the kind of antagonist fans of Harley Quinn want to see for an extended period. So don’t be shocked when the duo escapes in episode 4 and possibly defeats him next week. This leaves the second half of the season to focus on Dick Grayson’s revenge.
With everything going on so far (the move to The Big Apricot, Brainiac, and King Shark’s uncontrollable children), it’s easy to forget that Harley killed Nightwing. When he came out of the Lazarus Pit in the season 4 finale of Harley Quinn, the first thing he said was, “Where the (censored) is Harley Quinn.” This made Talia smile. Whether that is because she wants Harley and Ivy dead or happy that Nightwing is angry and ready to kill remains to be seen. Either way, Nightwing’s return should happen after the halfway mark of the season.
Let’s also not forget that Barbara Gordon and Poison Ivy think Poatato Harley Quinn killed Nightwing. When Barbara learns the truth she may help Dick go after his killer and Ivy will feel betrayed because Harley kept this from her. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Before the Dick storyline can take place, our heroes have to escape Brainiac’s ship.
