An iconic group of Marvel heroes will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday

The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Wakandans, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes might not be alone, as another group will reportedly join them in Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Infinity War had already toyed with the idea of bringing together different groups of Marvel heroes to fight the very same battle. Back in 2018, Earth's Mightiest Heroes crossed paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time in cinematic history to make a stand against Thanos and his forces. It was a great moment that had fans at the edge of their seats, but one that will pale in comparison to what's coming next.

Avengers: Doomsday is bound to be the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe project ever made (at least, until Secret Wars comes our way). We'll watch the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Wakandans, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes join forces to fight for the fate of the multiverse against Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

This is already an unprecedented superhero event, the likes of which we have not seen in live-action yet. However, things could get even crazier with the introduction of yet another group of characters that could add a bit of chaos into the mix.

The Illuminati will reportedly return in Avengers: Doomsday

They briefly showed up during the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but their time in the MCU could be far from over. According to reliable insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), the Illuminati will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. However, one big thing to take into consideration is that they won't "call themselves" the Illuminati.

Alex further elaborated by stating that the group won't have a name at all. Instead, the idea behind their appearance is that audiences will see the likes of Professor X, Black Panther, and Reed Richards together and think, "Hey, this is an Illuminati reference."

Interestingly enough, Namor has also been officially confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday and even showed up during one of the film's teaser trailers. The ruler of Atlantis was also a member of the Illuminati in the comic book world, so there's a chance that we'll see him follow a similar path on the big screen as well.

The whole point of the Illuminati in the source material was to have a representative from every group of Marvel heroes to make difficult choices that secretly shaped the history of Earth-616 (most of the time, not in the best of ways). With that in mind, the MCU version of the Illuminati would be missing a member from Earth's Mightiest Heroes and one representing the Sorcerers.

Maybe Sam Wilson's Captain America and Wong could also be part of the team, and all of them together could discuss the best way to deal with the multiversal incursions that are coming. However, it's very likely that their plan will go awry (as has been the case multiple times in the source material), and their decisions will indirectly lead to the creation of Battleworld.

By the looks of it, the new version of the Illuminati won't be from another universe and won't have been established beforehand. Instead, we'll see them come together on the big screen for the first time in Avengers: Doomsday. It will be interesting to see if this group will also appear in subsequent projects, such as Avengers: Secret Wars, or if they will be a one-and-done. But whatever the case, it seems we're going to see them on the loose soon, and we can't wait to see the chaos they will cause.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
