IDW and WEBTOON team up for stories featuring Godzilla, George Takei, and more

IDW and WEBTOON teaming up is a gift that won’t stop giving. Their first collaboration includes icons like George Takei, a murderous story from a fairy tale, and the King of All Monsters, Godzilla.

WEBTOON started in 2005 and helped creators publish stories in a world where that can seem impossible. Twenty years later, the company is thriving with amazing series like Batman: Wayne Family Adventures (by CRC Payne), The Beloved Incompetent Stepmom (Tsuruko Maruko), and Lore Olympus (Rachel Smythe). Those are just three examples. The good news is that if these stories aren’t up your alley, there is plenty to choose from. And, as of April 25, the options are getting better.

"Partnering with WEBTOON to bring a selection of our beloved IDW books to their platform is an exciting step forward in expanding our reach and engaging with a broader audience"
Davidi Jonas, CEO & Publisher of IDW

WEBTOON is teaming up with IDW Publishing (Locke and Key and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) to give readers three stories debuting on their site on April 25. They are Godzilla: Unnatural Disaster, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and They Call Us Enemy. They couldn’t be further apart, but that speaks to the assortment of options people have when going to WEBTOON.

They Call Us Enemy

"A stunning graphic memoir recounting actor/author/activist George Takei's childhood imprisoned within American concentration camps during World War II. "
ComiXology

They Call Us Enemy started as a graphic novel that won a Will Eisner Comic Industry Award and is a New York Times Bestseller. The story follows actor and activist George Takei during his childhood in American concentration camps during World War 2. That description alone should be enough to send chills down your spine because this part of history is that far in the past.

The concentration camps during WW2 are one of the parts of American history that people should be ashamed of. However, we should also remember that it happened. Without stories like this, we won’t remember to stand up and act when the time comes. As the phrase goes, “Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.” Considering the things going on today, we should all read this.

"Finally, murder and forensics are adorable!"
Patton Oswalt

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is an Eisner-nominated series in the horror story category. I may be showing my age, but the line from the title comes from an old song about bears having lunch. This is nothing like that.

The Penguin Random House description says, “Live, laugh, shed blood. Dexter meets Richard Scarry’s Busy, Busy Town in this twisted debut graphic novel!” As someone who’s a fan of different takes on formerly cute stories, this seems like a warped tale that horror fans will love. And if the Dexter comparisons are true, this should be an enjoyable comic.

"The three-part saga featuring Godzilla’s iconic rogues gallery, epic kaiju battles, and a thrilling adventure spanning different time periods - including a trip to the underworld."
WEBTOON

And now we have King of the Monsters and the G.O.A.T. OF Kaijus, Godzilla. When it comes to this amphibian annihilator, you don’t need to know much. He’s going to show up, wreck monsters, and chew bubble gum. Okay, he’s not going to do that last one. But he will battle other Kaju, journey to other time periods, and take a trip to the underworld. What more do you need?

Make sure you get to WEBTOON April 25 for the release of these three epic stories.
