Turns out two failed Marvel teams could get a second chance in the MCU

It seems the Fantastic Four and X-Men might not be the only Marvel teams about to get a second chance in the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around and going strong for nearly two decades now, and Marvel Studios has definitely enjoyed more hits than misses across its movie and TV slate. However, when it comes to the MCU, that’s not to say that every project has been a hit and stuck the landing.

The Eternals and Inhumans are two prime examples of ambitious ideas that didn’t quite resonate with audiences and weren’t exactly the slam dunks Marvel hoped they would be.

As brilliant as Eternals was, the film failed to captivate audiences in the way Marvel intended with many complaining about the film being too overly crowded and not the introduction of the characters not really making sense within the broader MCU stories. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Inhumans series landed with more of a whimper than a bang, falling short of expectations and being panned by fans and critics alike.

After their failed runs, it seemed like Marvel was ready to throw the towel in on the two iconic teams; however, it seems Marvel isn’t fully ready to close the book on either group of characters and there is a very good chance the “failed” teams might just get their chance at redemption within the MCU. At least if Marvel’s mastermind has anything to say about it.

Kevin Feige hints at plans for Inhumans and Eternals in MCU

During an interview with CinePop promoting Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige offered fans a surprisingly optimistic update on the prospect of the Eternals and Inhumans being brought back into the fold within the MCU.

“We're very proud of [Eternals] and that cast was incredible, we'd be lucky to get any of them back at some point. And Inhumans, you know, we had a cameo of Black Bolt in [Doctor Strange in the] Multiverse of Madness], and we'll see where, if and when, they return,” Feige teased.

Honestly, we love that Feige is keeping the door open for characters from both Eternals and Inhumans to return to the MCU as the characters deserve to be kept in the mix. And as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness proved with its inclusion of Black Bolt, sometimes they might not stick the landing the first time around but under the right circumstances, Marvel can make magic.

With the Eternals, in particular, there were so many unresolved storylines that we hope to see explored in future MCU projects and we desperately want to see what’s next for the characters. Arishem abducted Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos with their fates unknown; Druig, Makkari, and Thena had left Eart to go warn other Eternals about Arishem’s true purpose, and were surprised by the arrival of Eros and Pip the Troll who arrived to offer their services in helping to find the missing Eternals; Sprite opted to become human; and Dane Whitman heard the voice of Blade warning him as he prepared to wield the Ebony Blade and become Black Knight.

We deserve to see these storylines play out, and as Feige noted, the cast of the film was incredible and we’d kill to see even just a few of them back in the MCU! Let's just hope with Feige's support, the Eternals and Inhumans will get their chance to return in an upcoming project or two.
