Whether you’re a fan of Invincible the comic book or the Prime Video show, there’s no way you weren’t sympathetic to Scott Duvall’s cause. His sister was killed during Omni-Man and Invincible’s fight and nothing was done about it. Unlike the comics, the TV series went into further detail by showing the destruction the fight caused and Scott attempting to talk to the District Attorney of Chicago.
Both moments made the episode more emotional than the source material. Even adding that he had some kinetic powers helped add to the tragedy Scott is going through.

The coup de gras was seeing him endure pain putting his supersuit together. It showed that he wasn’t all talk. He was willing to hurt himself to achieve his goal. As great as that was, it proved how powerful he was. He could take a hammer to the face and not even bleed. Later, he jumps off a highrise building and lands without so much as a scrape on his knees. And when Shapesmith shows up, he defeats him without breaking a sweat.
Scott called out Invincible again during the memorial for the lives lost in Chicago during the Omni-Man and Invincible fight. It was an inappropriate time and place, but it makes sense that Powerplex would want to fight when he did. Remembering what happened that day brought back lots of emotions. He’s already lost control in less stressful situations, why wouldn’t he lose it here? Thankfully, Eve figured out how to beat him before anyone could get hurt. But, Powerplex escapes GDA custody and challenges Invincible one more. This time, Scott was the killer.
Scott losing it showed something that he didn’t realize but something Spider-Man has said for decades: With great power must also come great responsibility. Mark has done his best to make sure he doesn’t repeat his mistakes. Powerplex didn’t have the training or the emotional maturity to be a hero. At least not yet. Interrupting a memorial and damaging the wall to remember the fallen made that clear. But killing his wife and son after he put them in danger shows that he didn't understand how hard being a hero was. However, how many of us can say we wouldn't have become half as obsessed as Powerplex?
Once again, the creative team for Invincible on Prime Video improved on the source material. That much is still clear even in season 3. With years in between the original storyline and the episode’s debut, you can see why certain aspects were changed. The story of Scott Duvall was too quick to appreciate in the comics. He just seemed like a guy who stole some technology and went out on a vendetta. The episode showed that it was more than that. Scott tried to do things legally and kept hitting walls. This wasn’t a crazy person. It was the last resort of a desperate man.
