The season 3 finale of Invincible was a continuous punch to the face and it ended with an onslaught of head-butts. If you’ve seen the episode, you understand the reference. If you haven’t, what are you doing?! Stop reading and go watch it! For everyone else, let’s talk about what happened at the end of this episode.

*** WARNING! SPOILERS FOR THE SEASON 3 FINALE OF INVINCIBLE AND POSSIBLY SEASON 4 ***

First thing's first, let's talk about Mark Grayson's battle with Conquest. Mark defeated his new foe with a major assist from Atom Eve. It was the fight to end all fights and it looked like Mark had killed his first Viltrumite. Being the smart person that he is, however, he asks Cecil to see Conquest's body to make sure that he is dead. Cecil shows him the body and Mark tells him to burn it. Sadly, Cecil is a liar. Conquest is actually in a bunker trapped in tons of steel and a bomb is set to go off if he moves. Fun fact: That doesn’t keep him contained.

After everything that Cecil just saw you’d assume that he would know that all the bombs in his possession wouldn’t be enough to stop Conquest. At some point in season 4, the powerful warrior is likely going to heal enough to wake up and fly out of his metal prison. He will immediately go to his boss and ruler of the Viltrumites, Thragg, and tell him what happened. That will be the first sign of the next big fight, the Viltrumite War.

Damien Darkblood's confusing return

Damien Darkblood makes his first return since Cecil and Donald sent him back to Hell in season 1, episode 4. He appears in Hell during the credits for the season 3 finale, and tells his Lord that there’s a being on Earth that he can control who is stronger than anyone they’ve seen in eons. The weird part is this didn’t happen in the comics and we don't know who he's talking about.

Damien Darkblood is a joke in the source material, but it looks like the Prime Video creative team has plans for him. Big plans. This could turn out to be a new character or a twist on a regular. Maybe this is how Dinosaurus is born. An explanation would be nice.

Can we please have season 4 now?

Return of the Sequids

The Sequids were defeated in the second season of Invincible thanks to Robot’s creation as Mark used it on their leader. However, one of them hitched a ride back to Earth. Since then, they’ve been building an army in the sewer waiting for the right moment to take over Earth.

When they eventually invade, it’s going to be a disaster. There are billions of people for them to infect and that could mean the destruction of the universe. It’s also going to show Mark making good on the promise he told Oliver at the end of this season.

Things get darker for Invincible

If you thought this was the worst it would get for blue-and-black Invincible, you were wrong. Mark spent the last three episodes dealing with the consequences of his actions and blaming himself for everything that happened.

First, Powerplex tried to murder him leading to the villain's family being killed. Soon after that, Mark Grayson variants came to Earth to destroy and kill without a care in the world. If that wasn’t bad enough, soon after the devastation, Conquest arrived and nearly killed both him and Eve. That leaves Mark to admit that Oliver was right about the Mauler Twins and Angstrom Levy. He says he’ll kill anyone who threatens his family. As a fan of the comics, trust me, he means it.

Viewers who have watched the show and didn’t read the comics may think that Mark is weak because he often loses fights. Realistically, though, he’s like Superman in Justice League Unlimited: Walking around in a world made of cardboard trying not to kill or be too destructive. That all changes from here. Invincible, the character and the show, are about to get grim. You'll wish for the yellow-and -blue to return.
