The one thing a lot of people were looking forward to seeing in season 4, episode 5 of Prime Video's Invincible was the fights during the first part of the Vitrumite War. It makes sense since the action in Invincible has been intense and bloody. Plus, everyone wanted to see if Grand Regent Thragg lives up to the hype. And while the action was impressive, the best parts were the emotional moments.
WARNING! SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE, SEASON 4, EPISODE 5
Nolan coming back to Earth was a big deal in the Invincible comic books. Of course, the storyline with his son Mark Grayson (Invincible) was going to be a hot topic. Mark thought his father was dead, and he still wasn’t over Nolan leaving his mother and having a son (Oliver) with another woman. But it seemed like the other people in Nolan's life took it harder. What's cooler is that this was done better than the source material.
Invincible season 4, episode 5 episode highlights
The best part was Nolan and Debbie's talk. J.K. Simmons and Sandra Oh are veterans in the acting world who are beloved by many. And while most people know how good they can be, what they did here, with just their voices, was something special.
I felt myself tearing up during their conversation. I’ve read the Invincible comic book series front to back at least four times, and this moment still hit different. You know the apology is coming, but hearing it made the moment more emotional. Especially when Nolan said, “I’m almost a thousand years old, but twenty years with you, twenty years with you made me human.”
And then, Sandra Oh (as Debbie) comes in with the calm wrath of a god and lays into her ex-husband. It isn’t a moment that required yelling. The Golden Globe Award-winning actress showed why anger doesn’t need to be portrayed with rage. Sometimes, well-placed hits after contained fury are enough.

Debbie’s reaction was something that Nolan understood, but he hoped that his friend Arthur would understand the situation or accept his apology. Unfortunately for Nolan, that wasn’t the case. Arthur was definitely more receptive, but when Omni-Man said he’d like Arthur to fix his suit in the future, Arthur said that he only works with heroes. After that, all Nolan could do was fly away, disappointed.
And as bad as I may have felt for Omni-Man, I understand Arthur's reaction. Not only did his friend kill a bunch of people, but the things he said were also hurtful. And, on top of all that, Arthur was there to see Debbie crying over the man she loved calling her nothing more than a pet.
There’s still more left in season 4 of Invincible, but nothing will top these emotional scenes. In fact, I’ll go as far as to say that this will be one of the best TV or movie comic book moments of 2026. Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, and Mark Hamill put on a clinic that people will be talking about all year.
