We’re at the home stretch of season 4 of Invincible, and things continue to be high-paced. The Viltrumite War continues, but without Mark and Oliver Grayson (Invincible and Kid Omni-Man) and Nolan (Omni-Man). Mark is recovering from his injuries, and Nolan and Oliver are caring for him. But if the Coalition of Planets wants to rid the universe of the Viltrumite’s rule, they’ll have to make do.
WARNING! SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE, SEASON 4, EPISODE 6
After Great Thaddeus and Grand Regent Thragg give their individual speeches to their fighters, Oliver and Nolan take care of Mark. His wounds are so bad that Nolan isn’t sure that he’ll heal. Nevertheless, they know they have to try. Thankfully, not only did Invincible heal, but Oliver and Nolan had some amazing bonding time. This was needed because the traitor dropped the defenses that protect Talescria.
Meanwhile, Nolan and Oliver have an overdue talk while Mark recovers. Oliver heard it when his father said he didn’t care about his mother. It hurt him because it made him think that Nolan didn’t love him, too. Eventually, the truth comes out. Nolan said it because he didn’t want to hurt Debbie’s feelings. As the weeks go on, they bond, train, and become a family.
The hero Viltrumite Trio shows up at Talescria right when things are looking bleak. Allen the Alien, Tech Jacket (Zoe Thompson), and Thaddeus are losing the battle, and innocent Talescrians are being killed. Right when it looked like the Viltrumites were about to win, Invincible and Oliver destroyed one of their ships. It looked spectacular and sent the enemies retreating.
After the biggest battle of the war so far, Thaddeus makes a declaration. He says that it’s time for them to make a bold move. In the next episode, they’re going to planet Viltrum. If you’ve read the comics, you know what that means. If you haven’t, then don’t read the next section.
As it was explained in the second episode of the season, Viltrum was hit with a virus that killed billions of its people. Great Thaddeus created the Scourge Virus, hoping to rid the universe of the plague that his species brought. Now, there are fewer than 100 pure-blood Vitrumites in the universe. So, the best course of action is to take the fight to them.
In theory, this is a great idea. Sadly, this leads to the fight with the scariest Viltrumite alive, Grand Regent Thragg, but also one of the most amazing feats in comic book history happens. While the villains are distracted, Space Racer shoots a laser from his gun at Viltrum, and Thaddeus, Omni-Man, and Invincible fly towards the planet at an incredible speed and go right through the planet, blowing it up. After that, well, let’s just say that Thragg is less than happy.
