Invincible season 4 will start to define who Mark Grayson is as a man and a hero

The trailer for season 4 of Prime Video’s Invincible has heavy ties to the Image comic book series and shows crucial moments in Mark Grayson’s growth as a hero. Among them is the Viltrumite War.

Prime Video released the teaser for season 4 of Invincible with their usual meeting of characters in Burger Mart. And like they’ve done in the past, the preview shows what the creative team and voice actors have been up to since we last saw them.

It also gave viewers their first look at the most dangerous being in the universe, Grand Regent Thragg. However, the teaser didn’t show any action or much of what to expect going forward. Thankfully, the newest trailer for Invincible gave comic book fans and fans of the show everything they could have hoped for.

Growing Pains

Prime Video’s Invincible doesn’t stick to the same timeline as the comic books for various reasons. Among them is that some of the storylines are outdated or not necessary. It also helps the show flow better. That’s why Invincible is further along than expected and entering the appropriately named story, Growing Pains (issues 66-70.5).

As you may have seen in the trailer, Mark Grayson (Invincible) says that he should have made sure Angstrom Levy was dead. If he had, millions of people wouldn’t have died. With that thought in his head, Mark will do things that seem out of character, but will mold him into the hero he will later become. Unfortunately, some of the things he does are unforgivable, and they start with a character named Dinosaurus (more on him after season 4 begins).

Viltrumite War

The biggest surprise for many people may have been the return of Nolan, aka Omni-Man. If you’ve read the source material (if you haven't, I recommend that you do), you know that this is the beginning of two things. First is the Viltrumite War, and the second is Grand Regent Thragg.

Thragg isn’t just the uncontested leader of the Viltrumites. He’s the most terrifying and powerful being in the universe. Considering what Omni-Man did to Earth in season one, that should tell you everything you need to know. But, to hit the point home, even the mighty Conquest shrinks when Thragg gives orders.

To defeat Thragg and his Viltrumite warriors, Nolan returns to Earth to recruit Mark for a battle that will shift the balance of power in the universe. This takes place in volume 14 of Invincible, The Viltrumite War (issues 71-78).

During this chapter, Mark isn’t the only person Nolan and Allen the Alien enlist. New characters like Tech Jacket and Space Racer will be introduced, while returning heroes like Battle Beast and Thaedus also join the war for the universe’s survival. Sadly, it's doubtful that this season will conclude with the war ending. That will likely happen in season 5. However, if it does, don't be shocked when the conclusion leaves viewers concerned about the state of the world, because, sometimes, winning a war isn't really a victory.

Season 4 of Invincible is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow’s social media sites, Bluesky, Instagram, and Twitter for more updates on the series as it comes out.
