DC Studios' Lanterns has fairly lit up TV screens since its debut just two weeks ago. The HBO and HBO Max original series stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan - two different, equally iconic generations of the Green Lantern. But in this series, Hal is the hardened, gritty veteran who doesn't hold back while John is the protégé, and Lantern in training. Despite their issues with each other, they make a surprisingly great team - which the previous episode proved when John opened up to Hal about the aliens who kidnapped him.

The DC Universe series has surprised fans with some recognizable faces throughout its run thus far. In the second episode, it featured legendary DC Comics villain Sinestro (played by Ulrich Thomsen), who Hal reached out to for help. And you can rest assured that the third installment will feature some familiar faces too, including some Emmy and Grammy Award winners.

Laura Linney leads the cast in this week's installment, portraying a Guardian of the Universe - a.k.a. one of Hal Jordan's bosses - who seemingly shows up to confront John Stewart's mother Berndatte based on the official episodic stills. Linney is a legend of the stage and screen, with her role as Wnedy Byrde in Netflix's Ozark being her most recognisable to modern audiences. However, she has also starred in the likes of The Truman Show, You Can Count On Me, Love Actually, The Big C, Kinsey, Savages, and Primal Fear. On stage, she is best-known for her performance as Elizabeth Proctor in the 2002 Broadway revival of The Crucible, as well as her outings in The Little Foxes, Time Stands Still, My Name Is Lucy Barton, and Sight Unseen.

Throughout her career thus far, Linney has won four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a SAG Award. She has also earned three Academy Award nominations, five Tony Award nominations, and a BAFTA nomination.

The role of John Stewart's mother, Bernadette Stewart, is played by Jasmine Cephas Jones.

Jones is a star of the stage and screen too, with her best-known role being that of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in Lin Manuel-Miranda's Broadway juggernaut Hamilton - with her work on the cast album earning her a Grammy Award. On the screen, she is best-known for playing Ashley in 2018 film Blindspotting as well as its sequel / spinoff TV series, along with the role of Tyisha in FreeRayshawn - which earned her an Emmy Award.

And Just Like That... star Nicole Ari Parker was previously confirmed to be playing the present-day version of Bernadette, but we don't actually see her in this episode.

Meanwhile, J. Alphonse Nicholson returns as John Stewart Sr., Cairo Cash Lee plays 10-year old John, Noah Gibson-Slates plays Marcus Stewart, Jaylen Lyndon Hunter plays Aaron, Jerry Gureghian plays a character known as Gray Wolf, Sergio Lanza portrays a character known as the Recruiter and Mark D.
