In episode 4 of Lanterns on HBO, Hal Jordan and John Stewart searched for more clues on how to protect Rushville from destruction. This led to Will Macon seemingly attacking his wife (Zoe Macon) from space after the duo broke into his house and found alien weapons. Because John wasn’t too broken up about it, it led Hal to figure out that she’s the Manhunter who Will has been protecting.

At the end of the episode, Hal jumps out of a moving car and leaves John to crash into a pole. This time, John didn’t have the ring to protect him as he did in episode 1. It also didn’t seem like a training exercise. Hal was definitely sending a message to his partner/replacement. Sadly, this happened just when they were starting to bond.

Lanterns continues to show that giving the reins to a comic book writer (Tom King) to help make a superhero show is the right decision. Here’s how you can watch episode 5 to see if that statement remains true.

What to expect in the next episode of DC's Lanterns

In the second episode of Lanterns, a group of aliens gave John Stewart 48 hours to find the Manhunters, or they’d set off bombs in Rushville. According to the trailer above, they may have made good on that promise, and the destruction they caused will leave a lot of destruction in its wake.

Because the chaos is shown in the trailer, fans can guess that there’s more to what is being seen. For example, the relationship between John and Hal will be changed forever. It’s easy to think the worst, but don’t forget that John cries when he discovers that Hal i dead in 2026. Maybe this brings them closer together.

Lastly, a failure on this scale will have major repercussions. It could be how and why Guy Gardner becomes the Green Lantern. At the very least, we should see him try to figure out what happened. And we can guess that he wasn't kind or tactful when confronting John Stewart and Hal Jordan.
