2026 is gearing up to be one of the best years the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had in recent memory. Wonder Man started the year with a bang, making audiences fall in love with the tale of Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery.
Now, we're back on the dark streets of Hell's Kitchen courtesy of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and we'll stay there until the release of the Punisher: One Last Kill special. Afterward, we'll watch Spider-Man swing back onto the big screen before Vision takes over the spotlight with his own Disney+ show. Better yet? The year will culminate with Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembling once more.
With so many exciting projects yet to release throughout the course of the year, it's easy to forget that 2027 will mark the release of what's perhaps the most important Marvel movie to date: Avengers: Secret Wars. The end of the Multiverse Saga won't be for the faint of heart, as it is confirmed that the MCU will undergo a soft reboot afterward, marking a before and after for the superhero giant. Such a big project calls for a lot of secrecy, but at long last, we're starting to learn who will be there once the multiverse starts to collapse.

Chris Evans confirms his return in Avengers: Secret Wars
Back in 2019, superhero fans thought they had seen the last of Chris Evans in the MCU. After all, his character, Captain America, hung up the shield in favor of a simpler life with Peggy Carter. However, the very first Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer let the cat out of the bag by confirming that Steve Rogers will be back in action once more. Such a comeback also raised the question of whether we'd see Evans in Avengers: Secret Wars, and we finally have an answer.
User Jessica Zborowski shared the audio of a video where Chris Evans confirms that he'll start filming the last project of the Multiverse Saga soon:
"I start work on the next one in a couple of months, so I'm in the next one. There's that"
While Chris didn't confirm which character he'll be portraying, the more likely scenario is that he'll bring Steve Rogers to life once more. After all, you don't bring one of the most popular heroes ever out of retirement for just one more mission when the fate of the multiverse is at stake. That being said, we shouldn't rule out the possibility that a multiversal version of the Human Torch could be back. We could even see these two heroes share the screen at the same time (it never hurts to dream).
Since Steve Rogers is confirmed to have a prominent role in Avengers: Doomsday, reliable insider Cryptic HD QUALITY suggested that his participation will be smaller in Secret Wars. This seems likely, as it would mimic the strategy that Marvel used with Infinity War and Endgame. After all, characters like Doctor Strange and Spider-Man stole the show in the former, yet they barely had any screen time in the latter.
Key heroes like Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker are rumored to miss out on the events of Avengers: Doomsday. For a moment, there was a growing worry that Chris Evans wouldn't get to interact with them once more (or get to meet Andrew's Spider-Man altogether). Fortunately, it appears that every big Marvel hero will join forces for one last stand against Doctor Doom, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on December 17, 2027.
