Over a decade ago, video game players worldwide stepped into the last multi-platform game featuring the Caped Crusader. Batman: Arkham Knight not only concluded Rocksteady's iconic trilogy on a high note, but it also left us craving more. And while we'd see the release of two VR Batman titles afterward, DC refused to make another third-person, action-adventure title starring DC's most popular hero... until now.

Enter LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a video game developed by TT Games that will take us through the hero's most iconic moments across different media and decades worth of history. This local co-op adventure will deliver the biggest rendition of Gotham City yet, while also allowing us to control seven different characters, each with their own set of unique abilities. As if that wasn't enough, we'll also get to drive the Batmobile and Batbike to traverse from one place to another.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight seemed like a dream come true for fans of the World's Greatest Detective, and the only question remaining was: will the game deliver on all fronts? Fortunately, we finally have an answer.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight reviews are here, and they are stellar

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight currently holds a Metacritic score of 84, with 46 positive reviews and only four mixed reviews. By all means, it seems that the Caped Crusader is gliding higher than ever before. Just for reference, Batman: Arkham Knight had a Metacritic score of 87, which isn't all that far.

Reviews unanimously praise TT Games' rendition of Gotham City and the game's ambitious narrative that tells a completely original story filled with countless iconic moments from Batman's history across movies, TV shows, comic books, and even other video games.

ScreenRant gave LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight a perfect 10 out of 10 score, highlighting a story that's a "love letter" to Batman's legacy, while claiming that the title will "give your favorite Arkham game a run for its money." The only negative the outlet could list is that "some players may be put off by how many collectibles there are," which, even then, is a positive aspect in the opinion of this writer, since they are optional and you don't need to collect them all to finish the main story.

IGN mentions that the combat mechanics in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are a step up from usual LEGO games, as you'll be able to perform combos, parry attacks, and have a free-flow system that's similar to the one found in the Batman: Arkham games. Though the outlet also notes that the "Dark Knight" difficulty, which is the hardest among the three offered, is a bit too easy for experienced players.

VGC notes that the map of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will give you hours' worth of content, as "every island in the game has dozens of collectibles, challenges, puzzles, easter eggs and more to collect." It's also stated that this rendition of Gotham City is almost as stunning as that of Batman: Arkham Knight, which is sure to please fans.

In its 9.5 out of 10 review, MP1st praises LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for building a campaign that is capable of "blending all the films together in a structure that makes sense," while also being one of "the best Batman stories we’ve gotten in a video game." Better yet, the outlet also states that "performance that is mostly locked on consoles," which is bound put fans' minds at ease.

In its 10 out of 10 review, GamingBible states that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a contender for Game of the Year, even in a year where other fantastic titles such as Resident Evil 9, Pragmata, and Saros have been released. A key detail to highlight is that the review mentions that some missions in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will take you to areas that are "outside" the main playable map, meaning there's a ton of content for players to experience.

While not strictly a review, Blue Thunder Gaming made a video breaking down why TT Games' rendition of Gotham City is so special. For starters, you can go almost everywhere you can see (with just a few exceptions). Furthermore, the map will be filled with wind tunnels that will basically make Batman fly at great speeds.

Overall, it seems that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is bound to be an adventure for the ages. Granted, the game's difficulty seems to be a little too easy for experienced players, and maybe some will feel overwhelmed by the amount of collectibles available. However, the story successfully blends many plot points from other iconic Batman projects, the open world is huge and feels alive, and the combat is a perfect (if slightly toned down) recreation of the Batman: Arkham free-flow combat.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released on May 22, 2026.
