Peter Parker and Mary Jane are perhaps one of the most beloved couples on comic book pages along with Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Fans have watched them go from reckless teenagers in love to grown-ups who tied the knot and got married. Sure, Marvel eventually undid all of that (twice), but there's no denying they are made for each other. However, before Peter hit the Jackpot with MJ, there was someone else he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Unfortunately, that person was the one living her few remaining days with him due to one tragic day on top of the Brooklyn Bridge.
There's no denying that Gwen Stacy is one of the most iconic Spider-Man characters ever created. Her legacy is so big it even outlived her, especially considering her character is still being used across the media and comic book pages (though it's usually through alternate realities). That being said, it's been more than ten years since we've seen her appear in a live-action project after her death during the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, that long hiatus could end very soon.
See, even if we're still more than a year away from the release of the untitled Spider-Man 4, that hasn't stopped rumors from making their way online. And this time, we have all the reasons to believe that Gwen could have a major role in Tom Holland's upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Spider-Man 4 will reportedly feature a new love interest
According to renowned and reliable insider, Daniel Richtman, Peter Parker will have a new love interest in Spider-Man 4. But before we get ahead of ourselves, it's worth clarifying that the identity of the character itself wasn't revealed. Besides, we've heard for quite some time now that Marvel wants to bring Black Cat to the big screen. So why would we assume the latest report has anything to do with Gwen Stacy? Well, I'm glad you asked, because I have a conspiracy theory for you.
Superhero scooper Alex Perez also commented on the news that a new female lead has been cast by saying: "Remember when I mentioned the working title was Blue Oasis?". It might seem like a small detail but could point us in the right direction to figuring out who is this mystery character.
Back in 2002, Marvel published Spider-Man: Blue, a heartbreaking yet fantastic retrospect story about how Peter met and fell in love with Gwen Stacy even when — in the present day — he's visiting the Brooklyn Bridge to leave a flower for his deceased love. Fans were quick to point out that the two titles — Spider-Man: Blue and Spider-Man: Blue Oasis — are so similar that it must be more than a simple coincidence. Could Marvel be teasing a potential Gwen Stacy storyline in the MCU?
It's worth remembering that Peter and MJ aren't a couple anymore since the entire world forgot he ever existed. Coupled with how Peter is going to college, maybe there's room for Gwen to make her MCU debut. Granted, the chances of her being introduced and dying in the same movie are minimal, especially since the Green Goblin was already the main villain of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel probably won't shine the spotlight on him for the second time in a row (though Willem Dafoe hinted that could be the case). But if Spider-Man 4 begins with Tom Holland's Peter Parker recording voice diaries about how he still loves Gwen after her passing, I'd automatically rate it a 10 out of 10.
Of course, there have also been rumors that the film's multiversal adventure could lead to Emma Stone reprising her role as Gwen Stacy from The Amazing Spider-Man movies. And with that franchise's Spidey, Andrew Garfield, also rumored to return in the upcoming film, we wouldn't rule out an appearance from at least one version of Gwen Stacy in the movie. Either way, it would mark the MCU debut for the character.
On the bright side, many insiders claim that the casting news will be officially revealed soon. So perhaps we won't have to wait long to discover if Gwen is making a comeback, or if Felicia Hardy will finally be a part of a live-action project after many years. Either way, it could mean very great news for Spidey fans around the world.
Spider-Man 4 will be released on Jul. 24, 2026.
