Marvel's Avengers movies get the update nobody wanted to hear

Fans are suddenly a bit more worried about Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Endgame after this report has made its way around the internet.

It's only a matter of time until The Avengers reunite. Marvel's Mightiest Heroes are set to stage a comeback on the silver screen next year when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters, and they will be sticking around for the year after that too when Avengers: Secret Wars makes its presence felt too.

It's all part of a grand plan to bring the Multiverse Saga to a huge, game-changing end, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe previously pulled off with the Infinity Saga's Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And there are set to be some MCU surprises in the two larger-than-life adventures, including some major franchise returns too.

That being said, a recent report has cast some doubt on the excitement for the movies, and fans aren't quite sure what to make of it.

Kevin Feige reportedly has concerns about the Russos directing the next two Avengers movies

According to veteran Marvel insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has concerns about Joe and Anthony Russo directing both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, adding that it's too late to replace them so he will reportedly plans on being "way more hands on than ever" with the pair in a bid to oversee the script and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Of course, there is no official confirmation as to whether this is actually happening, but Richtman's track record as a scooper is strong, and fans have shown recent concern about the Russos involvement in both Avengers movies for a specific reason. The duo, who also have a strong track record in their craft, were behind the recent Netflix film The Electric State - a movie that has received overwhelmingly negative reviews, and is seemingly underperforming with audiences when compared to other Netflix original movies.

Of course, you can't judge anyone's strengths by their weaker outings, but as this film was such a step down from the duo's otherwise strong track record (their recent films haven't been as strong as their MCU projects, but they still fared better than The Electric State), it has raised some questions from fans who were hoping that the pair would be able to work their magic on the MCU once again - particularly as it is in need of that magic after a number of misses in recent years.

The Russo Brothers have previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame - all of which are widely regarded as four of the MCU's best movies. That means their Marvel track record is flawless, so there isn't any reason to believe that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars aren't in good hands. And given that the pair were called in by Feige himself to helm the films - after the franchise had to pivot from its original plans for Kang the Conqueror to serve as the Big Bad of the movies, replacing him with Doctor Doom - it's unlikely that the response to a non-Marvel movie would have changed the creative's mind.

The idea of Fiege playing more of a hands-on role, however, is a very good thing. These are the movies we've all been waiting for - and the culmination of the Multiverse Saga - so it makes sense that he would be more involved than ever.

Granted, given how hit and miss the Multiverse Saga has been these two movies need to match the heights of their predecessors to even remotely succeed, this isn't the update that anyone wanted to hear, but more hands-on involvement from Feige is a good thing regardless. Here's hoping that these films deliver on all fronts to send the Multiverse Saga out in style.
