The past two years have been very interesting for Marvel comic book readers, to say the least. The status quo for many Spider-Man characters shifted and changed in major ways. Eddie Brock parted ways with the Venom symbiote and became Carnage instead. The "Peter Parker" living on Earth wasn't really Peter Parker, but rather his clone, Ben Reilly. Meanwhile, the real Spider-Man lived in space for a period of time. The cherry on top? Mary Jane was the one who bonded with the Venom symbiote and became the Lethal Protector.

All of these different arcs eventually converged in the Death Spiral storyline, where Venom, Carnage, and Spidey had to team up to defeat a new bad guy in town. Not too long after the day was saved, things started to go back to "normal" (if there ever is a normal in Marvel comics). Mary Jane dropped the Venom persona, and Peter returned to his normal life in New York. Moreover, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote reunited for the first time in nearly two years, and now they're bound to take over the spotlight.

Eddie Brock's Venom is back with his own Marvel comic book series

Since the Venom War series concluded in November 2024, Eddie Brock's Venom has been out of the picture. But at long last, the two have reunited in their new solo series. While these two characters didn't miss a beat, there's one key difference this time around: Venom doesn't want to be a villain or anti-hero anymore, but a straight-up superhero.

Eddie Brock wants to make up for all the mistakes of his past. During his time as Carnage, he had to spend months on the run, hiding from the FBI. Besides, he wasn't necessarily an anti-hero when he first bonded with the Venom symbiote, but rather a terrifying villain. Now he's keen on turning his life around, so what better way to do so than by threatening the mayor of New York during his first workday?

Supervillain Hazmat was poisoning the water supplies of a whole neighborhood. So, as his first good superhero deed, Eddie Brock's Venom stepped in and absorbed all the poison. The Lethal Protector then captured Hazmat and sprinted through New York to get to City Hall in hopes of meeting with Mayor Luke Cage. Naturally, citizens were terrified of watching the alien monster on the loose, and the cavalry soon arrived to protect the mayor.

S.W.A.T. teams were ready to open fire on Eddie, and even the Avengers were lined up, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. But before all hell broke loose, Venom said he simply wanted to talk with the mayor, and Luke obliged. Once inside City Hall, Eddie revealed that he was there to personally turn in the supervillain Hazmat and make his demands very clear:

"Luke, I came to you as a courtesy and because it seemed simpler to start at the top. I'll be operating in this city, saving the day. I want that understood, and I don't want anyone getting in my way. You're still seeing me a certain way. A loose cannon. More power than judgment. You put me in a box. A coffin. But I got out. It's empty. I'm free."

Moving forward, it appears Venom will try his best to protect New York in a slightly more violent way than most heroes. But will this last long? Or will he and Spider-Man eventually battle it out once more for the fate of the city? Well, there's only one way to find out.

Venom (2026) No. 2 will be released on Nov. 25, 2026.
