There are three things that are certain: Death, taxes, and that no one stays dead in comic books. Steve Rogers, Spider-Man, and Batman have all died in events that made the news. However, everyone knew they’d return. The death and return of Superman started the trend that anyone popular enough can return. However, it should take some time before they do.
That’s where the resurrection of a certain X-Men villain comes into play.

Wolverine No. 10 creative team
- Writer: Saladin Ahmed
- Artist: Javier Pina
- Colorist: Bryan Valenza
In issue No. 8 of Saladin Ahmed’s Wolverine, Logan gets a note from his mother. She says she wants to meet so she can explain her actions. The problem is that she died over a hundred years ago (Wolverine: The Origin No. 3). Nevertheless, Logan confirms it’s her because he recognizes the scent. If you’re a comic book fan, you know that can be faked. While Wolverine knows it too, in issue No. 9, he returns to his childhood home to investigate.
After dispatching two of the X-Men’s enemies (Vertigo and Harpoon), Logan catches a scent that he never thought he’d smell again. It was his old enemy, Sabretooth. The same one he killed with the Muramasa Blade (that was supposed to ensure that Victor Creed stayed dead). Again, scents can be faked, but it doesn’t look like it was. Because, at the end of issue No. 10, Logan’s mother and Sabretooth are both there in the flesh.
You’re probably annoyed that Sabretooth is back from the dead so soon (he was cut to pieces in Wolverine No. 50 by Benjamin Percy). It’s barely been a year, and he’s returned. Thankfully, nothing Saladin Ahmed does is as clear as it seems. If you check the clues in Wolverine No. 10, you’ll notice something important. The Victor Creed that’s shown is dressed in the outfit he wore as a Marauder. And, before entering his old home, Logan fought two Marauders. That isn’t a coincidence.
Also, Victor may have told Logan that he owes him a death, but that doesn’t mean much. The two have fought and killed each other so many times that he could be referring to any number of battles. And, moments before seeing his mother, Logan was attacked by the ghosts of his biological father and the man who raised him. Sabretooth may not look like them, but this writer has faith that Saladin Ahmed will explain everything clearly.
Even if this is the real Victor Creed, it will likely connect to the story in a way that won’t upset readers. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see if that happens.
