Marvel Comics: Dr. Doom took over the world without cheating or villainy

Marvel Comics showed how Dr. Doom convinced world leaders to give him rule of the world, and he didn't do it with any of his normal tricks. However, there were some questionable things involved.

Marvel Comics’ crossover event, One World Under Doom, was promoted as Dr. Doom’s victory over the heroes as he takes over the world. So far, that’s been 100% accurate. Unite Earth’s governments? Doom did that. Make the world more livable for everyone, provide healthcare, and a world without borders, all while making the Avengers look foolish? Victor von Doom did that. However, there was no way Doom accomplished this without being evil, right? Earth's Mightiest Heroes find out that Doom didn’t do that.

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM AHEAD!

In issue No. 2 of One World Under Doom, The Avengers teamed up with various villains to perform a two-part plan. Step one was to distract Victor with a fight while Baron Mordo, the Goblin Queen (Madelyne Pryor), and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) look into the minds of Earth’s leaders to learn the truth. After going through their memories, Wanda reports the truth. Victor didn’t use villainy, mind control, or replace people with Doombots. As Wanda said, "This isn't magic, Carol. This is human nature."

A debate can be made that bribery is evil, and this writer won’t deny it. Nevertheless, more times than not, that’s kind of how politics work. Everything is a quid pro quo. Does that make it okay? Not at all, but look at the results. People in the Marvel Comics Universe are living their best lives and finally feel they have a future worth looking forward to. Sadly, that will come to an end at some point.

First, there’s the immediate danger. One World Under Doom No. 3 ends with Dormammu learning that Dr. Doom is the Sorcerer Supreme and isn’t using the normal spells to protect Earth from the Dark Dimension. His first move is to remove some of Earth’s heroes from the playing field. Next up is actually attacking. Unfortunately for the Dredd Dormammu, he will discover that Doom is more than worthy and ready for this fight.

Lastly, everything will go back to normal. Victor von Doom will lose control of the world, and the leaders will return to being petty and abusive. Borders will be closed, universal healthcare won't exist, and hatred will run rampant. At that point, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and others may have to admit something they never wanted to. Maybe Doom was right.
