You might assume that Deadpool hasn’t dated a lot of people. That is far from the truth. He may not be sought after like Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne, but people often fall in love with him. Siryn, Shiklah (his ex-wife), Valentine Vuong, and others have dated or found themselves attracted to Deadpool because he’s unapologetically himself. Some of them even find him physically attractive. In the recent issue of Deadpool (No. 13), writer Cody Ziglar adds Solem to the list of people who crush on Wade Wilson.

Solem is an Arakkii mutant with adamantium skin and a love of all things wine and sex. He debuted in the X-Men X of Swords crossover (Wolverine No. 6) and was introduced as a smooth and charming character with a gift of gab and persuasion. After X of Swords, Solem enjoyed his new life by relaxing, being intimate with various people, and drinking until his heart was content. That much is obvious in Deadpool No. 13.

Solem ended up on a collision course with The Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool No. 3 when Wade’s newest rival, Death Grip, goes to him for a weapon that can kill anyone, the Muramasa Blade. This ends with Death Grip killing Wade (who was resurrected in issue No. 9). Now, it's time for Deadpool to get Death Grip's location from Solem.

Wade, his daughters Ellie and Princess (the Symbiote dog), and Taskmaster go to Solem’s Pleasuredome. Solem agrees to tell them to Death Grip’s location if they make him submit. During the fight, Deadpool says that if they weren’t trying to kill each other, Solem would be his type. Solem replied, “Honestly? Same.” The two continue their battle, with Ellie ending the contest by using a mystical blade strong enough to cut Solem’s adamantium skin (they stole it from Ares' avatar during Pools of Blood). After the fight, Wade and Solem find other things in common leading to more smiles and attraction.

It’s always fun when a new, interesting character is written by an equally great writer. Wade’s fluid sexuality leads to him seeing the beauty in everyone. For Solem, there’s a lot of interest in pain for pleasure. A thing that Wade can consensually provide and receive.

While this was only one issue, it should lead to more from these two. Wade is fresh out of his relationship with Valentine Vuong and is training his daughter in the art of being a mercenary. Because of that, he probably isn’t looking for anything serious. And if anyone in Deadpool’s life would understand that, it’s Solem. He’s all about consenting pleasure with no strings attached. And since Cody Ziglar is an amazing writer who doesn’t waste moments in his stories, this won’t be the last time we see Solem. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see when that happens.
