With the current success of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch at the box office, it makes sense for Disney to want to showcase the lovable alien known as Stitch as much as possible. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn that a new set of variant Marvel covers will feature Stitch invading the Marvel Universe and hilariously interacting with various heroes and villains. Marvel has revealed that Stitch will appear on variant covers for The Amazing Spider-Man #11, Fantastic Four #3, The Avengers #30, X-Men #22, and Captain America #3.
The covers depict Stitch stealing Mjölnir from Thor (it is probably best to not even think about how Stitch was deemed worthy enough to lift the hammer), wall-crawling with Spider-Man, dancing with the Fantastic Four, spilling ice cream on Captain America’s shield, and being stared at by the X-Men. Needless to say, just looking at these covers is enough to leave fans rolling with laughter, with the hilarity of Stitch’s mischievous hijinks really knowing no bounds.
The artists for the variant covers will include Paco Medina, Humberto Ramos, Ben Su, Phil Noto, and Luciano Vecchio, with all those names likely being familiar to Marvel fans, and their work clearly speaks for itself.
Marvel has had some unique cameos over the years (even more if you count the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe) but this might just be the most unique of them all. But Stitch is a lovable part of the pop-culture landscape so it's not too surprising that he'll be causing chaos on the Marvel variant covers. It's especially unsurprising when you factor in how successful his movie currently is.
A live-action remake of Disney's classic hand-drawn animated film from 2002, Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a playful alien named Stitch, who escapes from the intergalactic laboratory where he was created and arrives in Hawaii, where he befriends a local girl named Lilo Pelekai (Maia Kealoha). The live-action film also stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Tia Carrere, Jason Scott Lee, Amy Hill, and Courtney B. Vance, with Chris Sanders returning to voice Stitch. It was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who also helmed Fraud and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and it has currently earned $945 million worldwide, meaning that it will likely hit $1 billion by the end of this month. And these hilarious covers will no doubt help to increase Stitch’s already massive level of popularity when they roll into stores throughout various dates in September.
