It's an exciting time to be a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan. If we're being honest, the biggest franchise in the world has always ensured that its fans have something to be excited about, but after some mixed results throughout the Multiverse Saga, it's back on track ahead of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars - the pair of films that will bring this story to an end.
But while fans continue to anticipate Doctor Doom's arrival in the larger-than-life crossover films, there is another MCU title on the horizon that looks to entertain us before all of that comes to fruition. That is, of course, VisionQuest, which arrives on Disney Plus this October. And it looks like it will finally tackle the story that MCU fans have been waiting to see, perhaps bringing about some closure to a fan-favorite trilogy in the process.
VisionQuest will introduce Tommy Maximoff, setting the stage for a family reunion
The first trailer for VisionQuest has been released and it confirms that Vision - a.k.a. the White Vision at this point in time - will go through a journey of rediscovery. The synthezoid has been a fixture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, but after his resurrection in Westview, he only has his memories from his previous life - not the emotions attached to them. And therefore, he must figure out who he is, if he is really Vision, and who he wants to be going forward.
To help him do that, he will rely on the AIs inside of his head - which includes the treacherous Ultron, who served as the Avengers' primary antagoonist in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015. James Spader is back as the former MCU Big Bad and he will be seemingly assisting Vision in reconciling his past selves with his current self. That journey will involve the discovery that he does, in fact, have two twin sons - and that one of them is nearby, it seems.
While Marvel fans knew that both Tommy and his twin brother Billy had survived the events of WandaVision, Vision did not. See, the White Vision was resurrected using both the original Vision's body and the chaos magic of the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff herself. He had no memories of his previous life nor the new memories that Wanda created for the fictional Vision she manifested in Westview. It was that fictional Vision, however, who managed to restore those memories, catching him up on both his original life and his idyllic sitcom-existence in Westview.
White Vision knows that Tommy and Billy existed within the confines of Wanda's Hex, but he didn't know that they survived outside of the magic. And the truth is that they wouldn't have if Billy hadn't been magical himself, as he successfully jumped into the body of the recently-deceased William Kaplan, using that at his form in the real, living, breathing world. In the events of Agatha All Along, he and Agatha Harkness successfully managed to place Tommy's consciousness - which was floating out there in the ether - into someone else's body. And that's where we will meet Thomas Shepard.
What's interesting here is that Marvel Studios actually confirmed that Tommy will appear in VisionQuest right from the offset - which is strikingly different to how it handled Billy's arrival in Agatha All Along, as that character's identity was a mystery throughout the majority of the first WandaVision spinoff's run, with the fellow witches simply referring to him as "Teen". His journey down the Witches' Road eventually led to Tommy's re-emergence.
Vision wasn't aware of any of this, so realizing that he has a son - and realizing that parts of the world that Wanda created for them in Westview are still alive - could very well help him figure out his place in the world; his new place. Needless to say, this is a moment that fans have been waiting years for, and by the looks of the VisionQuest trailer, it certainly won't disappoint.
Ruaridh Mollica is set to bring Tommy to life and, based on the footage in the trailer (and some of the released stills from the series), he and Paul Bettany's Vision will be sharing some powerful scenes together. WIll the confirmation that Tommy is alive and well be the driving force behind Vision getting back in touch with his emotional, parental side? Will this ultimately lead to him once again donning his signature red and golden colors that he had before Thanos killed him in Avengers: Infinity War?
Moreover, will this ultimately lead to the long-awaited Maximoff family reunion? It's looking likely. Rumor has it that Agatha All Along duo Joe Locke and Kathryn Hahn will reprise their roles as Billy and Agatha Harkness, and as those two set out to search for Tommy in Agatha's finale, there is a pretty strong possibility that they will appear, crossing paths with Tommy and Vision. If this does happen, it will likely set up their attempt to locate Wanda herself and reunite the entire Maximoff family while they're at it.
VisionQuest is the third and final installment in Marvel Studios' WandaVision Trilogy which, in many ways has become the crown jewel of the Multiverse Saga - earning adoration and award show acknowledgements for their performances, writing, and visuals. We have no doubt that VisionQuest will recreate the success of WandaVision and Agatha All Along - ending this incredible story on a high note.
VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus on October 14, 2026.
