Marvel fans are eagerly waiting the return of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and they won't have to wait too much longer for it. Matt Murdock and his friends will be back on our screens in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 on March 24, and the marketing push is in full swing now.
Marvel Studios has seemingly opted against releasing a full-length trailer in favor of multiple shorter TV spots designed to give us sneak peeks at the season's more street-level approach. It also is a reminder of the approach that general long-running broadcast TV shows would adopt, and given that Marvel Television is now attempting to ensure its shows are more typical, multi-season shows, this actually makes sense. But the newest of them seemingly spoiled a huge surprise comeback.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 trailer seemingly brings back Wesley
The newest teaser trailer for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 gives us our best look at the season's grittier tone yet. Still in office, Mayor Wilson Fisk looks to use his power to smoke out his enemies, a.k.a. the heroes of New York City who are looking to bring the Kingpin down. However, that will be easier said than done when he sees the army that Daredevil has amassed against him.
What's interesting, however, is that the sneak peek also seems to confirm another major, previously unannounced comeback. 12 seconds into the clip, we see the Kingpin sitting in a car looking out to the window. Behind him, in the shadows, there is a figure that looks eerily like his old friend, and right-hand man James Wesley. Watch for yourself below:
Naturally, this has already led to fans asking a multitude of questions: Specifically, how? If you'll remember the events of the original Daredevil series, Wesley was killed by Karen Page in what can only be described as a misjudgement on both of their parts. Having taken her to a remote location, he threatened her in his typical oddly friendly-yet-threatening tone but she managed to grab his gun. When he attempted to reason with her, Karen shot him multiple times in panic - having been pushed too far by the Kingpin.
Wesley's death hit the Kingpin hard; he was one of the only people he truly cared about and seeing his body sent the villain into a spiral. It also weight heavily on Karen, who struggled with the weight of her actions, despite being in an impossible situation at the time.
While Daredevil: Born Again's existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gives the series a host of possibilities when it comes to explaining away Wesley's return, the most likely option here is a flashback. We know that Elden Henson will be reprising his role as Foggy Nelson in spite of the character's apparent demise in the first season of the revival. He was also spotted in the trailer sporting a look incredibly reminiscent of his appearance in Daredevil's three-season run.
The potential reveal in the trailer, however, is quite surprising. Up to this point, Toby Leonard Moore had not been announced as a returnee for the second season of the Disney Plus revival series. Although he did attend the premiere of the first season, Wesley did not make any appearances and the Kingpin has a new team surrounding him, including a new right-hand man in Buck. Needless to say, MCU fans are excited about the prospect of Wesley's long-awaited return - even if it is only a cameo appearance.
While Marvel Studios has yet to announce it, that is clearly Wesley in the background of the Kingpin scene in that trailer. And this, along with the confirmed Foggy return, does seemingly suggest we will be flashing back to the events of season 1 at some point in time.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on March 24, 2026.
