The Multiverse Saga has been an interesting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although it started on a high, it has been full of ups and downs as Marvel Studios attempted to figure out the way forward for the franchise after Avengers: Endgame, while also juggling the new mediums of television shows and one-off specials it now had at its disposal. There were some stmbles along the way as the studio had to figure out that sometimes less could be more.

One of the big positives of the Multiverse Saga, however, has been the experimentation that Marvel took on during this time. From introducing new characters we've all been waiting to see in the MCU (such as Agatha Harkness, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Echo, and all of the Netflix Marvel characters) to presenting us with different styles, stories, and shows, the franchise has offered us some very different stories this time around and it has been a thrill to experience.

However, there was one area of the MCU that was only marginally explored in the Multiverse Saga that we've been hoping to see more of. It sounds like more of that could finally be on its way in the near-future.

Marvel will 'definitely' explore more of the dark supernatural corners of the MCU

According to renowned Marvel insider Alex Perez, Marvel is set to explore more of the dark and supernatural areas of the MCU in the next saga. When asked during his monthly Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus) about whether he had heard anything about possible characters or projects from the "more dark / supernatural corner of the universe", Perez responded:

"Oh yes. That’s definitely coming in the next saga."

It goes without saying that this is great news for the MCU. The studio dabbled in the dark world of the supernatural just a little in the Multiverse Saga but didn't really go all in on it after Phase Four came to an end (the saga ends with the end of Phase Six). We had Moon Knight pretty early on, as the six-part Disney Plus show premiered back in March 2022 and introduced us to arguably the most famous Marvel Comics character to have not made his MCU debut. That same year, the studio unveiled its first Special Presentation in Halloween special Werewolf by Night, with the black-and-white hour-long feature paying tribute to the classic horror movies of the 1950s.

The introduction of characters such as Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone and more really marked a new beginning for the more traditionally heroic world of the MCU. With the Multiverse Saga exploring new lanes for the franchise, it could add the supernatural, thriller aspects, and even light horror into the mix, and it pulled it off extremely well. The only problem is that there hasn't been any follow-through as of yet.

Rumor has it that Marvel Studios is developing a Midnight Sons movie that would bring back Moon Knight and potentially even introduce Ghost Rider - who is now quite likely the most famous Marvel Comics character to not yet appear in the MCU. In fact, it's now believed that the studio opted against doing a second season of Moon Knight as they had bigger plans for that character in that particular movie. And if that's the case, it will likely - finally - come in the franchise's next chapter.

As for what that next chapter of the MCU might be, Kevin Feige has given an early working title of "The Mutants Era". With an X-Men movie in development for that chapter, it's likely that it will officially be known as "The Mutants Saga" (at least that's what fans are already referring to it as). With that in mind, there will be plenty of experimentation. And with that, plenty of room to bring back the supernatural elements and characters that the MCU has only just scratched the surface with.
