Marvel Studios has taken on many tasks over the years, but perhaps the most confusing of them all has been its ever-changing approach to television. The Marvel Cinematic Universe officially began releasing shows on the Disney Plus platform in 2021 without ever confirming if it planned on renewing any of them for second seasons. Most of them were miniseries, some had potential for sophomore runs, and a rare few were lucky enough to get another go.
Now, the TV arm of the studio has officially rebranded to Marvel Television, allowing them to produce shows based on how long they can run. Daredevil: Born Again is the perfect example of that, as it has produced one season, has a second just weeks away from arrival, and a third in the works. This also allows them to revisit some of those earlier shows to see if they can award them with a second season. And now, one of the more recent MCU offerings might just get one.
Marvel developing Marvel Zombies season 2 (although it's not officially greenlit yet)
Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has revealed that the studio is indeed "actively developing" ideas for a second season of Marvel Zombies. The animated horror series has been on everyone's minds recently as fans wait to see if the spooky special from last year could return for another outing. And now, months after its arrival, Winderbaum still thinks it's possible, revealing on The Official Marvel Podcast:
"... we're developing a few things right now behind the scenes. Obviously, nothing's been greenlit yet, but we're actively developing the next Zombies story."
Needless to say, this will come as a pleasant surprise to fans hoping to see more of the alternate-universe MCU story. Although Winderbaum was really hopeful about the show's chances of another season back when it premiered, similar hopes had been shared for the likes of Ironheart - which we haven't heard anything about since.

Although the Marvel TV head once again stresses that "It's not official" yet, the fact that he was willing to share this information on the official Marvel podcast is undoubtedly a huge vote of confidence in the show's chances at renewal. In fact, Winderbaum even goes on to reveal that the ideas he has heard for season 2 are "incredible", saying:
"But [showrunner] Bryan [Andrews] is back in the house and we're starting to talk about ideas. The little bit I've heard so far is incredible."
Although Marvel Zombies is indeed part of the older class of Marvel shows - commissioned as a standalone - it adapted to the new Marvel TV era extremely well. Dropping as a binge watch, all four episodes premiered in September 2025 and it quickly became one of Disney Plus' most-consumed shows during Halloween season - replicating the success of Agatha All Along the year prior to that.
Although the series received mixed reviews, the general reception leaned positive, with praise directed towards the refusal to shy away from the horrors of a zombie apocalypse - making for a bloody, gripping, edge-of-seat watch. It also reportedly defied the streamer's expectations, overperforming and ranking as the No. 1 show on the platform across the world throughout its week of release. Not bad for a Marvel Animation relic from a previous era of Marvel TV!

If that is the case, it's no surprise that the show is still in consideration for a second season. Honestly, the market for this is there - a short-burst of animated episodes likely makes it among the cheapest MCU productions so, provided they stick with the Halloween releases, there is no reason to think that Marvel Zombies couldn't become an annual, seasonal success story for Disney Plus. It just needs the greenlit from the streamer to make it happen!
Marvel Zombies imagines a world where the majority of the MCU's heroes have been wiped out by a zombie apocalypse caused by a vrus from the Quantum Realm. A sequel to an episode of previous animated series What If...?, it sees a small group of heroes stand against the undead, hoping to restore things to the way they were: Among them are Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, Kate Bishop, Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Jimmy Woo, Ant-Man, Blade Knight, and Red Guardian. Their enemy: The Scarlet Witch who, with her army of the undead, has become known as the Red Queen.
