The upcoming year is a big one for Marvel Studios. Not only is the studio building towards the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga, it's doing so in larger-than-life fashion with some heavyweight titles coming our way.

That's right: 2026 will see the releases of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday on the big screen, while Disney Plus will offer up Daredevil: Born Again season 2, The Punisher Special Presentation, and Vision Quest (along with second seasons of animated outings X-Men '97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man). Yep, a very, very big year indeed.

One of those titles will also feature a comeback few of us were expecting and yet all of us were longing for, as it could very well mark the beginning of us all getting an explanation behind one of the franchise's most puzzling post-credits scenes.

Sharon Carter reportedly appearing in Vision Quest

According to Marvel scooper account Marvel Updates, Emily VanCamp is expected to appear in Vision Quest, reprising her MCU role as Sharon Carter, a.k.a. Agent 13. Although this isn't a confirmation as it hasn't been announced by Marvel, it does line up with the previous reports from trusted insider Daniel Richtman that Madripoor would be involved in the Disney Plus series.

You might remember that Madripoor made its MCU debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021, which just so happened to be Sharon Carter's most recent appearance. A dangerous place in Marvel lore associated with, well, crime, it became the base of operations for an individual known as the Power Broker, who was on the trail of the villains of the show, The Flag-Smashers. However, it was subsequently revealed in the post-credits scene of the Disney Plus series that Sharon was actually the Power Broker all along.

This was easily one of the biggest twists of the Multiverse Saga but it was also controversial as many felt that the character deserved better than this. The lack of follow-through since has also left audiences wondering if it was ever really necessary in the first place. After all, Sharon Carter is a hero in the comics, and the Power Broker is a completely different person.

But the MCU has struggled to find a place for Sharon over the years. Although VanCamp has been perfect in the role, the character hasn't had much of a purpose outside of her first appearance in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier - where she was assigned to watch and potentially protect Captain America, Steve Rogers. The two become love interests in the comics but, save for an unusually-timed kiss in Captain America: Civil War, that couldn't happen in the MCU because of how well-received Cap's romance with Sharon's aunt, Agent Peggy Carter, was.

Bringing her back in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier provided her with some of her best, most badass material yet. It also set the stage for her eventual heel turn as the Power Broker because of her anger towards the US government for turning on her and forgetting to offer her the same pardon for the events of Civil War that the world's most famous heroes received for their involvement.

Sharon has now received her pardon and rejoined the government as a CIA Agent. However, she now has access to so much more than she did during her time as the Power Broker, meaning she has secrets to trade and no doubt weaponry to sell. Could that be where her apparent involvement in Vision Quest comes in?

That series will bring Paul Bettany back as the White Vision attempts to reconcile who he was with who he is now, but the question is: Will it bring him to the Power Broker's door? Does he need tech, or is he taking it upon himself to take her down? We'll have to wait and see.

Vision Quest premieres on Disney Plus in 2026.
