Back in September 2000, Marvel made history by re-imagining one of their most popular heroes ever. The original Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series took over the world by introducing unexpected changes to the character's mythos. The Green Goblin was pictured as a huge rampaging monster, Gwen Stacy would eventually perish at the hands of Carnage, and Norman Osborn was involved in the creation of the wall-crawler. However, while fans fell in love with these original stories, the most important contribution of the series would come after the death of its main character: Peter Parker.
Spider-Man died in his last fight against Norman Osborn, leaving New York City without one of its greatest protectors. At the time, it was a very shocking moment for superhero fans, but little did we know that Marvel had bigger plans in store. After Peter left the scene, Miles Morales swung into the picture and became one of the most popular iterations of Spider-Man ever created. But while his impact on the comic book world is undeniable, audiences have yet to see him in a live-action project to this very date.
Granted: The Brooklyn teenager has been stealing the spotlight in the amazing Spider-Verse franchise. However, he has yet to join either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Sony's Spider-Man Universe — the latter of which is in a pretty dire situation after the failures of Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, and Morbius. But if comic book history has taught us anything, it's that Miles' best entrances take place when the situation is at its lowest.

Miles Morales will reportedly be the star of a rebooted Sony Spider-Man universe
According to renowned insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Miles will make his live-action debut in a rebooted Sony Spider-Man universe set to be created after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. So chances are that the MCU will keep using Peter Parker as their main Spider-Man variant, while the SSU will shine the spotlight on Miles. The only question remaining is if audiences will ever see both Spider-Men sharing the screen at the same time, given that they'll be on two different realities.
It's no secret that the current iteration of the SSU has been a complete failure. While the Venom franchise enjoyed some sort of commercial success, it has been grossing less money with each release. Furthermore, Kraven the Hunter — the latest movie taking part in the shared universe — ended its theatrical release grossing $61.8 million on a budget of $110 million. Needless to say, interest in Sony's movies quickly wore out due to multiple factors. First: the quality of the projects left a lot to be desired. Secondly, audiences quickly realized that no supervillain would ever cross paths with the wall-crawler even if the trailers attempted to indicate otherwise, so what was the point?
All of the turmoil led to rumors stating that Sony intends to reboot its cinematic universe with a different strategy in mind. Instead of shining the spotlight on Spider-Man villains, they'll do so on Spider-Man variants. Miles Morales is, of course, the biggest and most popular choice to kick things off, but in time we could even see the likes of Spider-Gwen and Miguel O'Hara joining him on the big screen. Even Spider-Man Noir will have his time to shine in MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video's upcoming series starring Nicolas Cage. It's undoubtedly a better strategy, but it all comes down to the execution.
As the source of the report said: we're best taking everything with a grain of salt. But it's impossible to deny Miles has great potential given that he has been making headlines for his role in Insomniac's Spider-Man game franchise, the Spider-Verse animated movies, and his fantastic comic book series where he was even turned into a vampire. It's been a long time coming to see him in live-action, and it seems the next logical step for Sony to follow. So fingers crossed the studio does the right thing and gives him his own movie.
