Marvel just did one of the worst things possible to Spider-Man

Spider-Man has lived through many tragedies over the years in the comic book world, but the most recent one has reached a new high.

Tragic stories are, more often than not, an inherent part of any superhero. However, Spider-Man definitely broke the mold. Throughout the years, the friendly neighborhood hero had to endure the death of his uncle and his first love, watch one of his closest friends become a supervillain (more than once), have his marriage undone, and even die before coming back to life and repeating history all over again. There was even a comic book arc called the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man, whose sole purpose was, you guessed it, killing Peter Parker over and over again in pretty painful ways.

The wall-crawler has overcome many tragic moments over the years, but there seems to be no end in sight just yet. A new supervillain called Ravage has joined Marvel Comics, and he's not only keen on physically attacking Spider-Man but also on torturing him on an emotional level. And what better way to do so than by completely erasing one of the hero's closest relationships?

Aunt May forgot almost every memory she had of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man

Ravage is not simply a random supervillain who showed up in New York City and made Spider-Man his next target. Instead, he's Aunt May's biological son—a twist that seems to contradict everything we knew about the Spider-Man mythos, and yet it doesn't make it any less real. Before Peter Parker lost his parents and moved in with his aunt and uncle, May and Ben tried to have a kid. Most of their attempts proved to be unsuccessful, but fate smiled upon them on one occasion.

Aunt May went to the hospital and gave birth to a boy. Unfortunately, the moment of happiness was quickly interrupted, as there was a switch-up when the nurses took the baby away, and she was eventually informed that her kid was stillborn. For years, May and Ben believed their only kid had died, and then Peter Parker came their way. Meanwhile, May's real son grew up in a wealthy family and was named Cormac Crane.

Cormac grew up and discovered that his "parents," Liam Crane and Beatrix Thyssen, weren't actually his real family. He dug up more about the incident at the hospital and discovered that May and Ben Parker were, in fact, his biological parents. Unfortunately, Ben had already passed away, and Cormac was convinced this devastating death was all because of one man: Peter Parker.

Cormac eventually learned everything. He discovered that Peter is Spider-Man and that the so-called "hero" didn't stop a burglar who went on to kill Ben. Not only that, but he also found out Peter never told May about the double life he's been living for years. Instead, the wall-crawler settled for pushing her away, lying on repeated occasions, and missing out on many appointments with her.

Cormac decided to take matters into his own hands and take back what was supposed to be his. First, he told May he was her biological son. Then, he slowly started to push Peter away while inviting May to dinner at the fanciest restaurants and taking her to the most expensive places. Peter couldn't do anything but watch from afar as someone else seemingly started to replace him. However, he also knew that Cormac was hiding a dark secret.

While it hasn't been explained how, Cormac has memory manipulation superpowers. Making the most of his abilities, he completely erased Peter Parker from May's mind. Now, she only remembers that Peter is her nephew but doesn't recall ever welcoming him into her home and raising him over the course of many years. She simply believes Cormac has been taking good care of her as her one and only son.

Peter sought help from Norman Osborn, the Scarlet Witch, and more in an attempt to reverse what happened to May. After all, she's the only family he has left, but their relationship has been completely undone. In his desperate attempts to separate Cormac from May, Peter even faced the hate of his aunt, who believes he is acting in a very crazy way. Now, there are no more funny remarks or quips. There's only a very angry Spider-Man who wants to fight Ravage, even though he doesn't know how to restore May's memories yet. On the bright side, it won't be long before we discover how this story pans out.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2025) No. 1002 will be released on Oct. 28, 2026.
