The best part of an Avengers movie is getting to watch multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe characters come together to stop a common threat and save the day. However, many different heroes have made their debut in recent years, which means not all of them will get to steal the spotlight once the crossovers finally happen.
Only a handful of Avengers will get all the attention to themselves, while the rest will mostly stay in the background and appear in the action scenes. After all, the same exact scenario also happened in Infinity War and Endgame, meaning history will likely repeat itself this time around. With that in mind, we need to ask ourselves: who will get to be the star of the show once the multiverse collapses?
Well, we might finally have an answer, and it's better than expected.
The Scarlet Witch will reportedly be a major player in the next Avengers movies
According to superhero scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Wanda Maximoff will have "a huge role" to play in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, a different report by the same source claims she'll share a lot of screen time with Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor Von Doom — who's also set to be a key player in the upcoming movies. Unfortunately, no details about their possible arcs have been undisclosed, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate. After all, the two have a very interesting storyline in comic book pages that could very well be adapted on the big screen. Now, we're about to dive into a bit of comic book exposition here but bear with me. I promise it will all make sense in the end.
Back in 2010, Marvel released Avengers: The Children's Crusade — a comic book series that took place after Wanda lost the two children she willed into existence. In it, it's revealed that the iconic Marvel hero was so desperate to find a way to be with her kids again that she asked another immensely powerful sorcerer for help. And who was that? Well, none other than Doctor Doom himself. The two would then "combine their magicks" in an attempt to capture the Life Force itself in hopes of bringing Wanda's children back to life afterward. The plan succeeded, but The Scarlet Witch was possessed by such an incredible amount of power that everything spiraled out of control before she could save Tommy and Billy. With her new-found reality-shaping abilities she would say three words that changed the Marvel world forever: "No more mutants".

After the aftermath of House of M — where the Mutant kind was basically eradicated — Wanda lost her memory, disappeared for some time, and was eventually offered refuge in Doctor Doom's castle. The two fell in love (no tricks involved) and nearly got married until Wiccan entered the scene. The Young Avenger helped his mom regain her memories, which was both a blessing and a curse. On the bright side: The two sorcerers didn't tie the knot. On the downside: Wanda was so desperate to undo all her mistakes after remembering her past that she made yet another deal with Doom. On paper, it seemed pretty straightforward: Victor would help her capture the Life Force yet again so that she could bring all Mutants back. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned and Doom stole the Scarlet Witch's reality-shaping powers all for himself which nearly caused the world to be under his command.
Now, why is all of this important? Because it's been heavily rumored that Avengers: Doomsday will feature the formation of Battleworld — a single place made out of every branching Marvel reality. In comic book pages, Doom creates such a world only after stealing the god-like powers of the Beyonder. However, we've yet to see the cosmic deity make his debut in the MCU, and introducing him in an already-stacked movie might not be the best choice. So how could Battleworld be created? Well, Doom can still be the one to will it into reality, but only if he were to steal The Scarlet Witch's powers.
The premise can play out similarly as it did in Avengers: The Children's Crusade. After all, The Scarlet Witch has completely disappeared after nearly breaking the multiverse and potentially provoking an incursion during her quest to be with her children from a parallel reality. With that in mind, it could be revealed that she also lost her memories afterward, and Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom offered her to stay in his castle. There, she lives a seemingly normal life until another hero finds her (perhaps Doctor Strange asks Wanda for help to fix the collapsing multiverse). The only problem? Wanda's powers are gone, along with her memories. So to help her remember everything after Westview, Wiccan could make an appearance.
Once The Scarlet Witch remembers who she is and gets her powers back, she'd be willing to do anything in order to make up for the mistakes of her past — even performing a spell alongside Doctor Doom to "fix" the multiverse. However, Victor could steal her powers in the process, and form Battleword in order to unify every branching reality and prevent their collapse. As simple as that, Secret Wars could take place, and it's all due to Wanda and her reality-bending powers.
Only time will tell if Elizabeth Olsen's character will play a huge role in the upcoming Avengers movies or not. But given The Scarlet Witch's comic book history, it wouldn't be surprising in the slightest — especially considering her (brief) engagement with Doom. Besides, it's way too long since we've seen her steal the spotlight, and what better place to do it than the most anticipated MCU crossovers to date? Come on, Marvel. You know you want to do it.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
