The moment that Marvel Studios made the decision to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe through multiple different streaming shows on the Disney Plus platform, it became an opportunity to showcase some of the MCU's most beloved - and underappreciated - characters. Clearly, Marvel felt the same way as fan-favorites like Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, Hawkeye and Nick Fury all got their chances to shine. And yes, of course, Loki did too.

Tom Hiddleston reprised his role as the MCU's nefarious trickster in Loki, a story about the God of Mischief's attempts to protect the sacred timeline from major threats. The first season was good, but the second was amazing; featuring Loki and the Time Variance Authority attempting to stop the Temporal Loom from exploding.

Since the show ended, however, there have been very little updates regarding Loki, the show, or if it will be widely available to other fans who don't have the Disney Plus streaming service. Now, Marvel has finally confirmed one of those things, and it's undoubtedly going to be music to the ears of the many collectors out there.

Loki season 2 is getting a 4K UHD release

Rejoice, physical media fans! Marvel Studios has revealed that Loki season 2 will be released on 4K UHD Blu-Ray for the first time on December 3, 2024. The official announcement, which comes from Marvel.com, confirms that it will come in a special collector's Steelbook packaging, and feature exclusive concept art cards as well as never-before-seen bonus content.

If you're hoping to continue adding to your collection of MCU Disney Plus shows, you'll be thrilled to hear that it won't be the only Marvel Studios release that day as Hawkeye season 1 is also making its physical debut on December 3.

The MCU shows are part of the next wave of Disney Plus shows earning a physical release and they will come out alongside Star Wars shows The Mandalorian season 3 and Ahsoka season 1. They are also the third batch of Marvel Studios shows to be released on 4K UHD after WandaVision, Loki season 1, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Moon Knight season 1.

Loki season 2 streamed on Disney Plus between October and December 2023, earning itself acclaim from fans and critics. While the first season was extremely well-received, some fans did retroactively point out that it struggled with pacing, dialogue, and the overall TV format, operating a bit more like a movie than a six-part series. The second, however, is widely considered to be one of the Multiverse Saga's crowning achievements.

To say that fans were hopeful that the second season would get a physical release is an understatement. Now, they can own it in physical format too, adding to their MCU collection as they eagerly await the God of Stories' return.

While the series itself isn't expected to return for a third season (due to its satisfying conclusion), Hiddleston is rumored to be reprising the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. Given how imperative Loki proved to be to the Multiverse Saga, that wouldn't be surprising at all. In fact, MCU fans are hoping that it will happen.

With the 4K UHD release almost upon us, there will be plenty of opportunities to revisit the second season before Loki's potential return.
