2026 is a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We've already saw the critical acclaim of Wonder Man, the adoration of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, The Punisher: One Last Kill's incredible action, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day's record-breaking reception. And somehow, there is still more to come from the biggest franchise in movie history.
The Multiverse Saga itself will begin to come to a head in Avengers: Doomsday (and the big Avengers Endgame: Encore re-release will help set the stage for that MCU chapter) and that will undoubtedly be a game-changer in and of itself, paving the way for next year's Avengers: Secret Wars. However, the fifth and sixth Avengers movies aren't the only big sequels on the horizon, because before all of that we will have the final installment in one of the MCU's greatest trilogies. And with that will come a major return.
Vision finally returns to the MCU in VisionQuest
It's been a long time coming but Vision is finally back. Paul Bettany's synthezoid Avenger returns in Disney Plus series VisionQuest, which streams on the platform this October. To say that anticipation is at an all-time high for it would be an understatement - especially as it concludes a long-running MCU arc, bringing back the Marvel veteran to do it.
The upcoming series features the former Avenger, now known as the White Vision after being resurrected from the dead for a life that is - both physically and emotionally - without color. Without his emotions, without Wanda, and without their kids, he is simply existing - hiding from government organizations in Scotland (where he and Wanda Maximoff often visited on their Avengers getaways) and that makes him feel alone. Therefore, he spends most of his time inside his own head, chatting with all of the AIs the MCU has ever known, including James Spader's Ultron.
Vision has been an imperative part of the MCU for over a decade, making his debut in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron (although Bettany has been a part of the franchise for much longer, voicing JARVIS since the first MCU movie in 2008's Iron Man). He then returned in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War - the latter of which saw the character killed off when Thanos extracted the Mind Stone from his head. But thatt wouldn't be the last we saw of Vision nor would it be the end of his story; only the beginning.
Bettany reprised his role in Disney Plus series WandaVision in 2021, alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff. Here, he portrayed a fictional version of Vision who was dreamed up by the Scarlet Witch in her grief over his death, becoming her husband in the idyllic life they were living and, eventually, father to their sons Tommy and Billy. However, outside of Westview, SWORD rebuilt the original Vision, stole his memories and eventually figured out that Wanda's magic was the key to reviving him. There, the White Vision was born. And, after running into Wanda's Westview Vision, he had his memories restored, choosing not to destroy Wanda or even partake in the fight.
It's been five years since Vision was last on our screens in the MCU, so it goes without saying that fans are ready to see him again. The synthezoid is one of the veteran MCU heroes still standing in the franchise, so it's safe to say that fans missed seeing him on their screens. And this return is undoubtedly going to be a memorable one - because White Vision is about to discover that a lot has gone down since we last saw him.
It turns out that his sons are, in fact, real; magical but real. Yes, in bringing Vision back, Marvel Studios is looking to wrap up one of the greatest trilogies this franchise has ever seen, bringing closure to the Maximoff family arc and perhaps even setting them all up for their next chapter in the MCU.
Something tells us that, once again, this is only the beginning for Vision and the Maximoffs.
