The Multiverse Saga has been a thrill-ride in so many ways, expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond its horizons, allowing it to tell new stories across television, standalone specials, and even animation. It showed us all that, regardless of whether the franchise told stories on the big screen or on Disney Plus, the magic of Marvel was present.

Granted, this new four-year-long era hasn't been as smooth-sailing for the MCU as the unchallenged dominance of its predecessor (the 11-year-long Infinity Saga), but there were plenty of highs to make up for some of those lows. You know that the Emmy-winning WandaVision and its beloved spinoff Agatha All Along, as well as the likes of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are among the finest chapters of the MCU's long story, and fans will continue to reminisce about the strength of these titles for years to come.

If the Multiverse Saga has been anything, it's an era of experimentation for Marvel Studios. And now, a new report (H/T: The Direct) suggests that one of its most successful experiments may be about to get a follow-up... and, honestly, yes.

Werewolf by Night sequel reportedly in development

According to veteran insider Alex Perez, Marvel Studios is developing a continuation to Werewolf by Night that would bring back Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing. The reveal came during a Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus) in which the scooper discussed the MCU's long-rumored Midnight Sons storyline, which is expected to be a feature of the franchise's next chapter after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The aforementioned trio are seemingly set to be among the characters involved in that storyline.

Released in 2022 and directed by Michael Giacchino, Werewolf by Night was by far one of the MCU's most unique experiments. A Halloween Special, it debuted during the spooky season and leaned into the classic horror approach of old black-and-white movies of the 1950s and beyond. And yes, it was in black-and-white too (although Disney Plus eventually released a color version, too).

Gael García Bernal starred as Jack Russell, the character who could evolve into the titular beast. The Werewolf by Night was eventually drawn out in the special when the hunt for a mysterious relic resulted in a temporary capture for both him and Elsa Bloodstone. When that happened, all hell broke loose in what was undoubtedly one of the most frightening scenes in the Marvel Studios franchise.

Although the special was received extremely well, it has been almost three years since its release and Marvel has yet to offer any definitive updates about when the more supernatural side of the MCU could receive more focus. Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing have yet to reappear and that has left their fates somewhat up in the air (or at least fans worry that it has).

After some of the studio's Multiverse Saga experiments didn't achieve the levels of success that they hoped, Marvel Studios reportedly overhauled its approach to the franchise, opting to move away from riskier, more experimental titles and investing in the ones that were destined to be sure-fire hits. Werewolf by Night is in something of a middle ground there because it was extremely experimental and not one of Marvel's well-known sub-franchises, and yet it was also successful.

To hear that the studio still reportedly has plans for the supernatural characters is promising to say the least. We know that this long-awaited Midnight Sons era is still seemingly on-the-cards and that could result in the returns of characters such as Moon Knight as well as the rumored debut of Ghost Rider, so the fact that the Werewolf by Night characters might get the chance to headline another project within that chapter is a very welcome surprise indeed.
