Spider-Man is one of the most popular and recognizable superheroes ever created, with countless ongoing adventures on comic book pages. However, he's been a little bit quieter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of late. Almost four years ago, audiences witnessed how Tom Holland's Peter Parker teamed up with other Spider-Man variants to prevent the collapse of the multiverse. Since then, we've all had the same question in mind: What has been the iconic hero up to now that he's truly alone, with no one to rely on? Fortunately, it won't be long before we finally figure it out for ourselves.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will represent a new chapter for the wall-crawler. While much about the movie is still unknown, it seems director Destin Daniel Cretton is gearing up to craft a street-level tale that could serve as a palate cleanser after the madness of Avengers: Doomsday. That being said, we won't be completely sure what kind of adventure we'll see until we find out who Spidey will face next. If the antagonist turns out to be someone like Tom Hardy's Venom (as it was heavily rumored at some point), then it's undeniable we'll be in for a multiversal tale. However, if it's someone such as Mr. Negative (as other casting rumors seemed to imply), then we might enjoy a grounded film.

While an official announcement regarding the big bad of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has yet to come, a new report might point us in the right direction. Better yet, it may also indicate which type of project is coming our way.

Sarah Snook has reportedly been cast as a villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

For months now, it's been reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to make history by featuring a female villain. Now, we might finally know who will bring her to life. According to industry scooper Jeff Sneider, Sarah Snook has been cast as an antagonist in the wall-crawler's upcoming movie. While details about her role remain under wraps, the front-running theory is that she could portray the role of Silver Sable.

Silvija Sablinova is a mercenary expert in hand-to-hand combat who acts as the leader of Sable International; a muscle-for-hire company that isn't afraid to step over any boundaries to accomplish its goals. The on-and-off Spider-Man villain is so popular that she was set to have her own stand-alone movie along with Black Cat back in Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man era, and she's been a major player in Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man saga. To take things a step further, she's had countless comic book appearances and even a role in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

For the longest time, fans wondered when Silver Sable would get to have the spotlight on the big screen, and it seems that time is nearly here.

Interestingly enough, it's also been heavily reported that Mr. Negative will also be an antagonist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Not only that, but his character debuted in the comic book saga of the same name back in 2007. With that in mind, there's a chance we could see Spidey fight against the two villains, before finally siding with Silver Sable and taking Martin Li and his demons down (much like in Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4).

Spider-Man is a beloved character with a large (and iconic) rogues' gallery. But despite having eight stand-alone movies, Marvel has barely scratched the surface when it comes to pitting the wall-crawler against different antagonists. After all, we've seen the Green Goblin steal the spotlight on three different films across three different sagas at this point. Hopefully, Destin Daniel Cretton will shine the spotlight on new characters, including Silver Sable. It would be interesting to see how Peter's relationship with her develops across the movie, and how he goes from having no one to rely on anymore to fighting next to a mercenary from Symkaria.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to expected to start filming in Summer 2025, which means it won't be long before we get official casting announcements and perhaps even set photos. So it's just a matter of time before we figure out if Sarah Snook is a part of the cast, and what role she will play. With a little bit of luck, it will be Silver Sable's time to wreak havoc on New York and then help save the city.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026.
