Captain America is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. He's been around for decades, entertaining audiences in the pages of Marvel Comics (and in those live-action films, too). When he became a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, he achieved new levels of legendary, cementing himself as one of the most recognizable heroes in the world to even the most mainstream of audiences.
Chris Evans played the role of Steve Rogers so well, and he did so for almost a decade, headlining three solo movies throughout his MCU stint. Now, a new Captain America rises, as Steve handed the shield over to longtime friend and ally Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, and he will step into the spotlight in the upcoming fourth installment in the hero's solo franchise, Captain America: Brave New World.
As with all MCU projects, the film has been the subject of many rumors as its release approaches. From reshoots to character cuts, the conversations among fans have been happening. And now, one of the actors set to appear in the film has confirmed that the rumors about his character are sadly true.
Seth Rollins confirms his scenes have been cut from Captain America: Brave New World
WWE Superstar Seth Rollins has confirmed that his scenes in Captain America: Brave New World have unfortunately been cut as part of the reshoots that took place on the film. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet in an interview, Rollins said that he is definitely not in the movie to ensure that any fans who might see the film for him aren't disappointed.
"I am not in the movie... I will say unequivocally I am not in the film. I do not want anybody to go to the film thinking, oh I’m here to see Seth Rollins. There might be two people who would do that, but I don’t want those two people to waste their time. I don’t want to misinform anybody. I don’t want to lead anybody astray. I am not in the film."
He also added that he wouldn't be able to reveal any information about the movie as it has likely changed so much due to the extensive rewrites and reshoots, resulting in his role getting either "repurposed or entirely erased".
Although Rollins' role was never officially confirmed by Marvel, there was speculation that he was playing Klaus Voorhees, a.k.a. King Cobra, who would have been a significant member of the Serpent Society. However, that faction is no longer expected to be a part of the film, with subsequent reshoots instead bringing in Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinter, who is expected to play a major role in the MCU franchise going forward. The film's trailers have since confirmed that Sidewinter will face off against Sam Wilson's Star-Spangled Man.
Anything can happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it wouldn't be too surprising if Rollins got the chance to play his character again in another project at some point. It is unfortunate that the seemingly antagonistic character won't be a part of the film as he would have been an intriguing addition to what already seems like a stacked film. And if you've watched WWE, you'll know that Seth is very, very good at playing villainous characters.
Nevertheless, the former World Heavyweight Champion doesn't hold any grudges about the cinematic situation, acknowledging that reshoots are a part of the business, and adding that the film "should be a good one" as "Marvel does a great job".
So true Seth, so true.
