Marvel reportedly making the movie we've all been asking for

A rumor that a World War Hulk movie is being developed is circulating the internet and it would be profitable. However, would it be the best idea for an MCU adaptation?

There are certain Marvel comic book crossovers that fans would love to see take place in live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them is the hard-hitting and destructive World War Hulk. It's a series where the Hulk has never been more powerful. Or, as it’s said in the comic, “He’s never been angrier, so he’s never been stronger.”

World War Hulk comes after Planet Hulk where some of the Illuminati (Black Bolt, Stephen Strange, and Reed Richards) send the Hulk into space. After another rampage destroys some of Las Vegas (Fantastic Four Nos. 533-534), the self-proclaimed protectors of Earth decided to send Bruce Banner away (Incredible Hulk No. 91). The plan was for him to land on a peaceful planet. Instead, he ends up on a planet plagued with war called Sakaar. While there, he saves Sakaar and falls in love. For the first time in years, Hulk was happy. Unfortunately, that was short-lived.

The spaceship that sent him away exploded killing his wife and unborn child. Thinking that the Illuminati caused the explosion, Hulk leads his Warbound (Hiroim the Shamed, Korg the Kronan, Elloe Kaifi, Miek the Unhived, and No-Name of the Brood) to Earth to get revenge. What Hulk didn’t know was that Miek caused the explosion. Despite that, the Illuminati isn’t blameless. They sent him away to fall in love only for her to die.

World War Hulk could be coming to the MCU

It sounds like a World War Hulk movie is in the early stages of development. During their monthly Q&A, insider Alex Perez, for The Cosmic Circus, reveals that they have heard the same rumor that other scoopers and outlets have been alluding to: World War Hulk is in development.

But this report takes things a step further. When asked if something regarding World War Hulk could be announced at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, Perez says: “I expect the rumors to start up before that.” However, when asked about Kevin Feige potentially looking for a director or if the film would shoot later this year, Perez said, “Too early in my opinion.”

The idea of a World War Hulk movie is a gift and a curse. Of course, it would be entertaining. It’s the Hulk rampaging and destroying everyone who got in his way. The problem is the reason why. Incredible Hulk No. 91 and Planet Hulk explained why the Jade Giant returned to destroy everything and everyone who got in his way. Without that, it’s just Bruce Banner losing control and breaking things. It also leaves out his Warbound who heavily influenced the story and helped him become victorious.

Admittedly, The Breaker of Worlds fighting heroes and winning is a money-making idea. Beyond people loving him, the title World War Hulk gets everyone excited even if they don’t know the origin. However, without a backstory, the movie won’t have the depth the title deserves and would run the risk of potentially doing a disservice to the classic Marvel Comics event by writer Greg Pak and artist John Romita Jr.

If this movie is being made for profit alone, you can't be mad at this title being used. Plus, maybe the project furthers the Marvel Cinematic Universe by introducing characters or starting new storylines. Either way, World War Hulk works better if it's built up slowly. You don't want a situation like Eternals where a show would have been a better idea.

There are rumblings of the MCU taking an alternate approach to the World War Hulk storyline, and if that is the case, it seems they have been playing the long game for some time now. And, as we said, that is a good thing.
