The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an exciting place full of unique possibilities and long-standing rumors. It's the biggest franchise in Hollywood history and it has earned that reputation, bringing countless people to movie theaters over the past two decades to thrill them with larger-than-life adventures befitting of the big screen. The $31 billion that the MCU movies have made is just one of the many pieces of evidence of that.
As the powers-that-be at Marvel Studios attempt to figure out what comes next, the curtain is starting to come down on its ongoing Multiverse Saga. As fans of this franchise now, the end of any chapter means that Avengers movies are on the horizon. So, naturally, there are plenty of rumors about who could return and what might happen. But, again, this is the MCU, and rumors are part of the furniture at this point.
With that in mind, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars aren't the only MCU titles on the horizon generating a lot of discussion. And now one of the MCU's biggest stars seems to have confirmed a long-standing rumor about his return project.
Paul Bettany confirms Vision Quest is about "fathers and sons", meaning it will likely include Tommy (and perhaps Billy) Maximoff
Paul Bettany recently appeared at Los Angeles Comic Con at a panel alongside his MCU and WandaVision costar Elizabeth Olsen, as well as Vison Quest showrunner Terry Matlas. The star was asked a question about what fans can expect from his upcoming spinoff, and he had some very interesting things to say, telling the audience that it was about "intergenerational trauma", adding:
"... fathers and sons and denial of pain and denial of your own truth and coming to terms with who and what you are."
Naturally, those comments have resulted in a ton of excitement as they have essentially confirmed one of the longest-standing Multiverse Saga rumors. That rumor is that Vision Quest is expected to introduce the adult version of Wanda and Vision's son Tommy Maximoff, a.k.a. Speed, and it became all the more likely whenever Ruaridh Mollica had been cast as a character named Tucker - who fans are convinced is actually Tommy.

We last saw Tommy in WandaVision (well, the MCU's version of him, at least) and he, along with twin brother Billy, seemingly perished when Wanda took down the Hex over Westview. However, Billy's powers meant that he could reincarnate in a different body - something that he did in WandaVision's other spinoff Agatha All Along (in which he was portrayed by Joe Locke). In that series, Agatha Harkness ultimately helped Billy place his brother's consciousness inside a new body and the duo then set off to find him.
Vision Quest is the third chapter in the MCU's "WandaVision Trilogy", continuing the stories that the original series and Agatha set forth. With that in mind, the biggest question remaining from the previous two revolves around Tommy's whereabouts, so it's only natural that fans are expecting him to appear in the third installment.
Bettany himself acknowledged its place as part of this story when asked about whether the show was a direct sequel to WandaVision:
"No, but I would say it’s absolutely, rightly part of the trilogy."

Another element that has also had fans convinced that Mollica is playing Tommy Maximoff (and that Tucker is indeed Tommy, just as 'Teen / William Kaplan' was Billy in Agatha) is that he and Joe Locke are currently starring in the play Clarkston together on the West End. While it's not uncommon for a British actor and a Scottish actor to work together, two MCU stars destined to cross paths in the future suddenly working on the same play together (and even wearing Agatha and Vision caps to tease the fans) seems like too much of a coincidence.
Needless to say, excitement is high for Vision Quest given that it will seemingly complete one of the most beloved stories ever told in the MCU. With WandaVision and Agatha All Along among the best-received shows that Marvel Studios and Disney Plus have produced, expectations for this one are also very high. Given that it seems like the show will be giving the fans what they want with the Tommy reveal, it stands a really good chance of exceeding those expectations!
Vision Quest premieres on Disney Plus in 2026.
