When it comes to its television productions, it’s fair to say that Marvel Studios has turned out more limited series than ongoing projects. Since WandaVision kicked off the MCU’s Marvel TV era on Disney+ in 2021, there have been over a dozen live-action and animated series to debut on the platform. These shows have been met with varying levels of success and acclaim, yet even the most successful of shows haven’t been able to secure renewal orders.

For some shows, second seasons were never in the cards, as the plan was always to use the show to bridge the gap to another project. Take, for example, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which set up both Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts, making a second season unnecessary. However, the majority of Marvel’s television offerings were certainly set up in a manner that left the door open for additional seasons. Sadly, though, Marvel hasn’t been generous with its renewals; however, the studio might be turning over a new leaf.

We’ve seen many more renewals being handed out lately, most recently with the renewal of Wonder Man for a second season, and it seems Marvel Studios has been in a bit of a more generous mood lately than it has been in the past. Not only has Wonder Man been renewed for a second season, but a second season order has also been handed out to a hit animated series that debuted in late 2025.

Marvel Zombies season 2 is happening and production is already underway on the new season

Following a well-received first season, Marvel Zombies has been renewed for a second season, and production is already underway on the next chapter in the animated horror series.

Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, broke the news during an appearance on The Escape Pod podcast, revealing to the show’s hosts that season 2 was happening and was already deep in production. While Winderbaum played the reveal off, this marks the first official confirmation that season 2 is in the works, as Marvel had not previously announced the show’s renewal.

"I don't think it's a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies season 2 this morning. It was crazy, I can't say anything about it, but it delivers not just on like zombies, but also on like an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we're very excited to do."

Given Winderbaum's comments about seeing the first animatic for season 2's premiere, it seems that production is well underway. No timeline was provided on when the season could release, but we have to imagine Marvel will try to release the show in Fall 2027, which would put the second season two years apart from season 1's release.

Regardless of when the season releases, it's exciting to know that a second season is in the works, as season 1 ended on quite a cliffhanger. After Kamala Khan reluctantly teamed up with the zombified Scarlet Witch, it looked like the pair had saved the day as Kamala woke up from the zombie battlefield to find herself in Jersey City, where everything seemed to be back to normal. Kamala was reunited with her family and friends, Kate Bishop and Riri Williams, and it looked like Kamala and Scarlet Witch had actually saved the world. That's when Kamala realized this was all an illusion as Riri battled off an army of zombies and warned her that everything was not as it seems.

The ending hinted that a second season would be coming to continue the story, but Marvel had not formally announced a renewal for the show, which left it hanging in limbo. Thankfully, it seems Marvel is working on another season which will continue the story. As for whether season 2 will be the final chapter or future seasons might be planned, we'll have to wait and see.
