Marvel will reportedly bring back franchise staple after the Multiverse Saga

The reports of Marvel TV's death seem to have been greatly exaggerated.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been known for its expansive franchise of films that break box-office records and are (usually) released to critical acclaim. From the get-go, the studio has had a key understanding of how to craft movies starring some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and this formula has proven to work time and time again. Unfortunately, the same didn't initially hold true for its Disney+ series.

During the beginning of Marvel's television era, the studio was criticized for creating projects that felt more like overextended films rather than actual TV shows. And while there are exceptions to this rule, such as WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and Loki, not every series has had incredible ratings. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 was met with a decline of over 50% in views compared to the first season. Furthermore, Ms. Marvel and Echo also struggled to keep audiences glued to their screens.

The MCU has had a bumpy road on television so far, which is why rumors indicated that the superhero giant wouldn't release more Disney+ shows moving forward. However, these reports may be far from true.

Marvel will reportedly not step away from creating TV shows, but will scale down productions

According to industry insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), as long as Disney+ is around, Marvel will be asked to create content for the platform. But while the Marvel shows aren't going anywhere, the studio will scale down the number of productions it makes. A subsequent report from Puck News also claims that Marvel Television is indeed still working on developing new TV shows with announcements expected soon.

The MCU has had a very uneven Multiverse Saga, with projects like Deadpool & Wolverine being released to critical and commercial success while films like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania proved to be the opposite scenario. As a result, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Marvel will reduce its output of projects in an effort to prioritize quality over quantity. Moving forward, the studio will release no more than three movies and two series per year, which certainly goes in line with the idea of reducing (but not canceling) TV productions.

There are plenty of recurring shows that are bound to return to the screen year after year. The head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, previously stated that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is envisioned as a series with yearly releases. Granted, the second season won't come our way until 2027, even though the first season was released in 2025. However, from next year onwards, we could see the wall-crawler take over the small screen more regularly.

Similarly, X-Men '97 will come back for seasons 3 and 4 in 2027 and 2028, respectively, and Daredevil: Born Again season 3 is scheduled for next year. While there have been no announcements regarding the fate of the Man Without Fear past next year, it isn't far-fetched to assume that a fourth season of his show will hit TV screens in 2028.

The worries that Marvel would step away entirely from television also stemmed from the fact that multiple series have been canceled, such as Wonder Man season 2. However, it's important to keep in mind that more Special Presentations are reportedly coming our way, including Strange Academy and a sequel to Werewolf by Night.

For the time being, not much is known about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Fans are hopeful the studio will host a big presentation where it will announce an entire slate of projects, as in the good old days. If that were to happen, then we'd surely get news about what's next for Marvel television, and which heroes would jump onto the small screen to save the day. But for the time being, there are plenty more Marvel Disney+ shows on the horizon, and the next stop on the road is VisionQuest on Oct. 14, 2026.
