The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have found its new Master of Magnetism. According to insider Cartier Films, Marvel Studios is eyeing actor Morgan Spector to play Magneto in the MCU, saying that they "really want him" for the role.
Spector's casting has yet to be confirmed. However, since Magneto is one of the most iconic characters in X-Men history, it would be impossible to imagine Marvel not introducing him alongside the team in the MCU or at least setting up his role in the franchise with a cameo in the forthcoming MCU-set X-Men film.

While Marvel fans may not have heard of Morgan Spector, he has had a stellar career outside of the MCU. He is famous for his role as Dante Allen in season 7 of the hit TV series Homeland. More recently, he rose to greater fame playing George Russell in HBO's acclaimed period drama, The Gilded Age.
He was also nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries for his performance in The Plot Against America. Some may know him as the husband of actress Rebecca Hall, who coincidentally starred in the MCU film Iron Man 3 as Maya Hansen.

If Marvel Studios does cast Spector as Magneto in the MCU, it is unclear whether he will be a hero or a villain. In the comics, the character has had a complicated relationship with the X-Men and their leader, Professor X, so it seems like he could go either way in the MCU.
It is also unknown whether he will have a major role in the upcoming X-Men film. Marvel Studios has already positioned Mister Sinister, who will be played by Adam Driver, as the film's main villain. Having Magneto play a villain in the film could divert focus away from Sinister and clutter the story.
It is possible that Marvel Studios could use the X-Men movie to set up a bigger role for Magneto in a later project. The most he could get in this MCU film is a post-credits introduction similar to Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Given the reports that Marvel did not want to lead with Magneto when bringing the X-Men into the MCU, it would make sense to tease his arrival in a post-credits scene which could set him up as a threat for a potential sequel film.
Nevertheless, fans won't have to wait long to see Magneto again on the big screen. Actor Ian McKellen will reprise his role as the character opposite Patrick Stewart's Professor X in Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios' X-Men film premieres in theaters on May 5, 2028.
