Marvel reportedly interested in a major star for big MCU role

Marvel Studios needs someone to help lead them into the future, and this HBO actor could be exactly what they need.

The phrase “strike when the iron is hot” can be applied to performers too. When you have someone popular and talented, it’s a good idea to get them to be a part of your projects. Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans were already household names prior to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe but after they made their Marvel debut, they became superstars. They were always gifted, but more eyes on them meant people would go see projects because they were involved. That’s where Game of Thrones’ “Young She-Bear” Lyanna Mormont and the star of The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey, come into play.

Bella Ramsey’s rise to stardom came out of nowhere and they have been doing an excellent job with the opportunities. Well-known for their role in Game of Thrones, they were suddenly playing one of the most iconic characters in video game history in Ellie HBO's The Last of Us and knocking the role out of the park. Ramsey may not be in the third season of the HBO show as much (if at all), so they could have time to audition for future roles. Among them could be something involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That's right; according to Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the HBO star is currently being eyed to play a big role in the MCU.

Beyond Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, the future of the MCU is up in the air. Will there be a hard or soft reboot of the universe? Will fewer shows and movies be released yearly? Are we ever going to see the X-Men? Because these and other questions need to be answered, securing someone as popular and likable as Bella Ramsey is key. It's a good way to keep people intrigued about what’s next for Marvel Studios. The problem is casting Bella Ramsey in the right role.

You can’t throw them into any role and hope for the best. As we’ve seen in the past with Michael B. Jordan in Fantastic Four (2015) or Julian McMahon in Fantastic Four (2005), even brilliant actors can have bad outings, leading to potentially unwatchable movies. We can look past those roles and use New Mutants as an example. Not even Anya Taylor-Joy could save that movie, and she was amazing as Illyana Rasputin (Magik).

Right off the top of my head, Cable’s daughter Hope Summers came to mind as a potential character that Ramsey would be great as; Hope is the right kind of sarcastic badass that Bella could easily play. Then, another thought came to mind. Since the first issue of Al Ewing’s Immortal Thor, Loki is non-binary in Marvel Comics. Since Bella is also non-binary (using the pronouns they/them) and representation is important, they’d be a nice fit as the new God of Mischief and lies.

We’ve seen what Bella can do when she needs to play a character who is obnoxious, rebellious, or a liar. There’s no reason to believe they couldn’t pull this off with gold horns and godly, green gear. And with Tom Hiddleston’s future in question after Avengers: Doomsday, a new Loki could appear to take his place. One that could be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future.

Loki once made a bunch of deals that allowed them to return younger after they died (Siege: Loki), who's to say they wouldn't do that in the MCU? And let's not forget that Disney Plus' Loki series confirmed that there are plenty of Loki variants out there. Could one of them stick around after Avengers: Secret Wars? Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out.
