We all love a good Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover. Since the moment Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled on the big screen, we've seen no shortage of amazing team-ups over the years. Three different variants of Spider-Man came together in the adventure of a lifetime, Deadpool and Wolverine had the spotlight to themselves last year, and Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes were the stars of their own Disney+ series, just to name a few examples. But even with such a strong track record, the best is yet to come.
Audiences are eager to see the Avengers and the X-Men come together in Avengers: Doomsday. But where do you go from there? Well, there are a few ideas in fans' minds. Everyone hopes that Moon Knight, Werewolf, Man-Thing, Blade, and perhaps even Doctor Strange come together to form the Midnight Sons. Furthermore, Kamala Khan seems to be recruiting the Young Avengers if the post-credits scene of The Marvels is anything to go by. Last, but not least, we've all been eager to see The Man Without Fear join forces with the wall-crawler himself
Spider-Man and Daredevil are not only two of the most beloved street-level heroes ever created, but they also have a strong friendship in comic book pages (so much so that Matt willingly revealed his secret identity to Spidey). Furthermore, the two briefly crossed paths during the event of Spider-Man: No Way Home, even if it was without their superhero costumes. But while studio politics prevent the two from having a proper team-up, a new easter egg might reveal that a crossover could eventually be on the cards.

Spider-Man's theme plays on the Daredevil: Born Again finale
Fans have theorized that Spider-Man's theme plays in the finale of Daredevil: Born Again, just as Matt realizes that he'll need a group of heroes to take down the Kingpin. Furthermore, composers The Newton Brothers seemingly confirmed this detail by responding to the theory with an emoji of raised hands before quickly erasing their post. Could we be looking at the setup of an iconic friendship?
Ok am I just delusional or is that the MCU Spider-Man leitmotif right before Matt says that he needs an army pic.twitter.com/3iHwrW3v5R

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane was asked about the easter egg and what it means for the future. Unfortunately, he didn't know whether the long-awaited team-up would come to fruition, but stated that Marvel keeps its cards very close to their chest:
"I don't really know. That's the best way of putting that. Marvel doesn't always share their plans with me. So that theme being part of our story took me a little bit by surprise when I saw the posts on it. And...how can I answer this question? Honestly, I don't know what's in store with that particular character."
It's worth remembering that the initial pitch for Spider-Man 4 (now titled Brand New Day) reportedly saw the wall-crawler and Daredevil fighting against New York's newest Mayor, Wilson Fisk. Unfortunately, it was later revealed that such an idea was dropped in favor of a symbiotic crossover with Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock, another concept that also fell through. What will happen in Spidey's upcoming movie remains to be seen, though it's highly likely that it will be a Mr. Negative story. That being said, it appears that Marvel has been toying with the idea of a proper Peter Parker and Matt Murdock team-up.
The situation is complicated given that Sony holds the rights to the live-action adaptation of Spider-Man, while the rest of the MCU is under the Disney umbrella. Granted, we've seen other Marvel heroes appear in Spider-Man movies, but he has yet to appear in another project that isn't the Avengers. With that in mind, the chances of watching him on the second season of Daredevil's TV series seem unlikely but not impossible, especially now that we know the finale hinted at it.
Much has been said about how Spider-Man fails to show up when his city needs him the most. Kingpin takes over New York, and there are riots on the streets, yet the wall-crawler is nowhere to be seen. Furthermore, Thunderbolts* will feature a villain that can instantly consume anyone with shadows, and the hero will probably skip the movie altogether. It's unfortunate that ownership rights prevent him from going to the multiple parties set in the MCU. Hopefully, a true crossover with Daredevil is in the cards, and it happens sooner rather than later.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will be released in March 2026.
