Back in 2023, players around the world witnessed how Kraven's thrill for the hunt and Venom's desire to heal the world almost pushed New York City into darkness. But just when it seemed everything was lost and there was no turning back, Peter Parker and Miles Morales swung onto the scene to save the day. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was a memorable video game that not only elevated the franchise to a whole new level with even more polished combat and an improved traversal system, but it also left us wanting more. How could it not? It's enough to take a look at the title's post-credits scene to know something sinister is on the horizon, after all.
Unfortunately, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 concluded with Peter giving up on the superhero mantle and hanging his mask in favor of a simpler life with Mary Jane. That event left players with more questions than answers about the franchise's future. Is Peter's story over? Will Cindy Moon take over along with Miles? Is a third game really coming our way or is Insomniac dedicating all their resources to creating Marvel's Wolverine? Well, it took almost a year to get some much-needed answers, but that day is finally here and it's all courtesy of Spider-Man himself.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is officially confirmed and Peter Parker will be back
The voice actor behind Insomniac's Spider-Man, Yuri Lowenthal, attended MultiCon to raise funds for the recent L.A. fires (talk about a real-life hero). During his time at the event, he had the chance to talk with The Direct about Marvel's Spider-Man 3 — a game that wasn't even officially "confirmed" until that point. Fortunately, Yuri revealed what every Spider-Man fan has been waiting to hear since 2023: We still haven't seen the last of Peter Parker.
"There are very few things that I can say about this game, but you have somehow landed on the one thing that I can answer, and that's that: Yes, Peter is not gone. He will be a part of the next game and he won't be relegated to the couch, I promise (...) I wouldn't let them make another game without me, I love it too much."
At the end of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octopus said he's been busy planning the "final chapter" during his time in prison — a comment that could indicate the upcoming trilogy capper might also be the end of the franchise as a whole. With that in mind, it would've been very shocking to learn that Peter didn't have a role to play, especially considering how he was the one to put Otto Octavius behind bars in the first place. While this isn't a confirmation that the young adult from Queens will be the main character, he'll likely be an integral part of the game's story. The only question is: What heartbreaking tragedy will take place in order for him to give up on his quiet life next to M.J. and put on the suit once again?
Carnage is still loose in the city, while Doc Ock will likely escape prison and the creation of the Green Goblin is all but confirmed. Those are some of the three worst (or best, depending on how you see it) Spider-Man villains ever created. They are also incredibly dangerous. With that in mind, it would take an equally big ensemble of heroes to take them down. Fortunately, Miles and Peter's reunion is all but confirmed, while Cindy Moon was teased at the end of the latest chapter of the saga.

Given that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 had two main playable characters, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume the trilogy-capper will add one more into the mix. The only worry players had was that Peter would be sidelined, but that isn't the case anymore. So it looks like Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will indeed be the biggest and most ambitious entry in the franchise, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Unfortunately, it isn't clear when we'll learn more about Spidey's upcoming game. After all, Insomniac is still busy with Marvel's Wolverine (a title that was announced at the same time as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 back in 2021). Chances are players will travel with Logan himself to Madripoor before even getting a teaser of what Peter and Miles have been up to during all this time. On the bright side, Yuri Lowenthal's comments indicate a working script is in place, so pre-production on the game must be moving along nicely.
But while we wait for Spidey to swing back into the video game world, audiences will see him steal the spotlight on both the big and small screen next year thanks to Spider-Man 4 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2. Besides, he'll also join forces with Earth's Mightiest Heroes to try and stop an impending multiverse collapse during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Hopefully, that will keep us occupied while Insomniac Games crafts an amazing adventure worthy of the iconic hero and their own previous work.
