For nearly five years, audiences worldwide have patiently waited to see more of Marvel's friendly neighborhood hero on the big screen. The Multiverse Saga has nearly come to an end; the Kingpin of Crime became New York's mayor; and the Void turned everyone in the city into a shadow of their former selves (literally). But throughout all this time, Spider-Man was nowhere to be seen, raising questions among fans about his status. Fortunately, his long-awaited return is not only being met with incredible reviews, but all signs indicate its commercial reception could be even better.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't the juggernaut it once was. A decade ago, projects starring unknown heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy were guaranteed box-office successes. Now, highly acclaimed movies like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps struggle to break even. With that in mind, all eyes are on the wall-crawler's latest adventure to see if Marvel can go back to its golden days, and it seems that will most certainly be the case.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the best ticket pre-seller of 2026, and could become the hero's highest-earning movie
Let's start by addressing a very important subject: Box-office predictions for Spider-Man: Brand New Day are... a bit all over the place. Deadline reports that the latest MCU film is tracking to have a US domestic opening of $195 million and a worldwide gross of $465 million, making it Sony's second-most successful debut, just behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened to $600.5 million in all territories.
On the other hand, Variety has revealed that domestic estimates suggest the film will gross somewhere between $260 and $280 million. Overseas, the wall-crawler's latest adventure is expected to "earn at least $275 million," meaning the entertainment outlet expects Brand New Day to have a worldwide opening of $535 million at the very least. But while these numbers are outstanding, Marvel could find even more success with its most popular hero.
Global Box Office has reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could surpass $300 million domestically in its first three days alone and gross a whopping $800 million worldwide during that same timeframe. If that were to happen, then Sony would have successfully crafted its most successful Spider-Man movie to date, beating the opening of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Furthermore, the studio's latest superhero flick would be on track to reach the $2 billion mark by the end of its theatrical run.
While projections from different outlets vary widely from one another, there are two things that we know for a fact. For starters, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already grossed $200 million at the worldwide box office in pre-sales and early international showings alone. Furthermore, the wall-crawler's latest adventure has become the best pre-seller of 2026, as per Fandango:
"Fandango, the nation's leading online movie ticketing service, announced today that Sony Pictures' highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now Fandango's biggest ticket pre-seller of 2026, surpassing The Odyssey to become the largest movie launch of the year."
There are two key things to take into consideration when analyzing the box office results for Brand New Day. First and foremost: The film does not have the benefit of including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Spider-Man, which was a huge selling point for No Way Home. For reference, Far From Home is the highest-grossing street-level film for the character that isn't part of the Multiverse Saga, and it had a domestic opening of $92.5 million. Well, Brand New Day is expected to more than double that metric even in the "worst-case scenario."
Furthermore, it's worth remembering that Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn't released in China, a major market, due to the repeated appearance of the Statue of Liberty. Since Brand New Day doesn't have this problem, there's no reason why it couldn't surpass its predecessor, even without having any multiversal cameos.
The future is looking bright not only for Sony and Marvel but also for Peter Parker himself. Fortunately, it won't be long before we discover how much Brand New Day grosses during its opening weekend.
