Since the 2000s, superhero movies have become increasingly popular in mainstream media. When the X-Men and Spider-Man made their cinematic debuts, they paved the way for countless iconic characters to follow. However, the true surge of the superhero genre came when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born in 2008. Nearly two decades have passed since then, and multiple projects have graced the big screen, each with a different genre, story, and tone. However, only a handful belong to the highest-grossing films ever made, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is among them.
The wall-crawler finally returned after nearly a five-year hiatus, and the world welcomed him with open arms. Not only was Peter Parker's latest adventure released to positive critical reception, but it also shattered all early box-office projections, becoming one of Marvel's most successful releases to date. Now, a little under a month since its premiere, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has beaten two iconic Marvel blockbusters at the box office to officially become the second-largest superhero film ever made.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially outgrosses Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War
Look out, because here comes the Spider-Man. The hero's latest movie has grossed $2.2 billion at the worldwide box office, officially surpassing the entire theatrical run of Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.9 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War ($2.05 billion). Of that amount, $1.3 billion comes from international markets, and $854 million comes from domestic showings alone, which is an astounding feat. To put that number into perspective, Avengers: Endgame currently holds the record for the largest domestic box office at $858 million, meaning Marvel's latest release is bound to take over the crown (likely on Aug. 24, 2026).
At the worldwide box office, Avengers: Endgame remains the biggest superhero movie ever at $2.79 billion. Furthermore, Marvel will re-release the 2019 crossover on Sep. 25, 2026, which means that number will only get higher. As such, it is unlikely that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will overtake Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but it should come close, as projections estimate it will end its run at $2.5 to $2.7 billion.
Currently, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the sixth-biggest film ever made. For reference, here are the eight biggest movies and where the wall-crawler's latest adventure ranks among them:

By the end of its theatrical run, Spider-Man: Brand New Day should rise all the way to the third spot on that list, surpassing Titanic, Ne Zha 2, and Avatar: The Way of Water. Interestingly, Marvel's latest project currently holds the crown for being the highest-grossing fourth installment in any franchise, with the second spot going to Toy Story 4 at $1.07 billion.
All eyes are currently set on the wall-crawler, and with good reason. However, Brand New Day's overwhelming commercial success could be blown out of the water later this year by yet another Marvel Cinematic Universe film. According to an analysis by The Wrap, the first two days of ticket presales for Avengers: Doomsday were 65% higher than those for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Furthermore, the upcoming MCU crossover is projected to earn $1.5 billion on its opening weekend alone at the worldwide box office.
After an underwhelming 2025, the MCU came out swinging in 2026, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With projects like Avengers: Secret Wars, X-Men, and Black Panther 3 on the horizon, it's safe to say that the overall superhero box office will go back to its golden days. And things could only get better if Peter returns for a fifth installment in his standalone saga, which seems very likely considering the success his latest adventure achieved.
