New Spider-Man: Brand New Day concept art confirms fans' suspicions

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but perhaps one of the biggest ones is an anticipated fight sequence.

The wait is almost over. For the past four and a half years, superhero fans have wondered what Spider-Man has been up to on the big screen. After all, the friendly neighborhood hero was nowhere to be seen when the Kingpin of crime took over New York and became its mayor. Similarly, he was completely missing when Void turned every New Yorker into a shadow of their former self (quite literally). But at long last, the wall-crawler is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his upcoming movie is pulling no punches.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just around the corner and is set to feature many iconic Marvel characters. Fan favorites like The Hulk and the Punisher will have an important role to play in the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure, while it has been reported that Jean Grey and Yelena Belova will also show up at the party. With so many heroes in the mix, it was all but a given that we'd see some of them team up and some others face off. Fortunately, this notion has finally been confirmed.

The Punisher and Spider-Man will team up to fight the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Going against the Hulk is no easy task, which is why the wall-crawler will need a little help. Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the location where Spider-Man and Frank Castle are gearing up to fight someone during a behind-the-scenes video is the exact same place where the web-slinger is going toe-to-toe with the Green Goliath in a TV spot. That means Frank Castle will also be part of this confrontation.

Furthermore, concept art of the fight between these three iconic characters has also been released. The picture depicts the wall-crawler punching the Hulk, while the Punisher appears to be falling down an elevator shaft completely unarmed, hinting that he has already used his entire arsenal to try to stop the Hulk.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton also helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, an iconic MCU movie praised for its fast-paced and well-choreographed action scenes. Now, it seems he has an even bigger superhero sandbox to play with, so it will be interesting to see what the final result is like.

Spidey, the Punisher, and the Hulk had never met or interacted in the MCU before, and it appears they will skip formalities and go straight to business. But why will this confrontation happen? Well, thanks to the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, we know that Bruce Banner will be mind-controlled by an unnamed party (likely to be Jean Grey), and this will prompt his transformation into the big, savage monster we all know and love. However, the one big mystery remaining is: Why won't Frank be mind-controlled as well?

In the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, there's a blink-and-you-miss-it shot where the Punisher sees everyone around him suddenly freeze, presumably due to Jean's powers as well. So what is it about Frank that lets him keep his free will? Has his Marine training helped him? Or has his mind gone through enough torture that it is now immune to mind control? Whatever the case, Spidey will need all the help he can get, so it's good that the Punisher will be by his side.

It has been reported that the Savage Hulk will merely be a diversion to keep the wall-crawler and the Punisher entertained, so it seems that something bigger will unfold in the background while the two iconic characters fight the Green Goliath. Fortunately, it won't be long before we can finally experience everything Spider-Man: Brand New Day has to offer and discover whether Frank and Peter will be able to do their best Thor impression and stop the Green Goliath in his tracks.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Jul. 31, 2026.
