Marvel's next "Endgame" reportedly has unexpected main character
Rio Vidal may have claimed that "all roads lead to" her in Agatha All Along but all roads in the Marvel Cinematic Universe currently lead to Avengers: Secret Wars. It's the next endgame of the MCU, designed to bring about a conclusion to the Multiverse Saga and, if it's anything like Avengers: Endgame, it will do it in epic, larger-than-life, and ridiculously ambitious fashion.
It's also the second in a two-part finale to the saga, as the film will succeed Avengers: Doomsday. The fifth and sixth Avengers movies, they will bring back MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr., as the franchise's original hero is now set to become one of its biggest villains. Yes, the star will play what is expected to be an alternate version of Tony Stark from the multiverse known as Doctor Doom (yes, that Doctor Doom), which means that all of Iron Man's friends are about to have their worlds turned upside down by a foe that looks exactly like him.
All eyes are on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in the hopes that the two films can send the Multiverse Saga out on a high note. But a new report claims that the second of those two films may have an unexpected protagonist.
Wanda Maximoff rumored to be one of Avengers: Secret Wars' central characters
According to a new report from Marvel scooper account Marvel Spoiler (and shared by fellow scooper account Marvel Updates), the Scarlet Witch herself, Wanda Maximoff, will be one of the primary characters in Avengers: Secret Wars, with a role that is described as being as important as Tony Stark's was in Avengers: Endgame.
While Endgame was an ensemble movie, Tony had arguably the biggest role of all of his fellow heroes. He had initially refused to help them bring everyone back because he was afraid of losing everything he had gained in the past five years, but he ultimately agreed to do it. And he did do it, sacrificing himself to defeat Thanos once and for all in the process. Now, that seems kind of like he had the main role in the movie.
If the Scarlet Witch's role in Secret Wars is anything like that, it means that fans of the character are undoubtedly going to be in for a film that finally places some long overdue spotlight on her. That might be surprising to fans who were longing for this (as the character has been relegated to a supporting role in previous Avengers movies) but it might also come as a surprise because Wanda is currently presumed dead in the franchise.
The character seemingly sacrificed herself at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after the Darkhold had corrupted her, but Agatha All Along was particularly ambiguous when it came to addressing that potential death, perhaps even vaguely confirming the fan theories that she would return at some point. And even before that, there have been a multitude of rumors and reports claiming that Wanda will return for the two Avengers movies, where she may or may not cross paths with Doctor Doom.
Given how pivotal a figure the Scarlet Witch has been to the Multiverse Saga, it shouldn't be too surprising that she might have a major role in its conclusion. But, you know, Wanda died, so that does make it pretty surprising. When it comes to magic and the MCU, anything is quite literally possible.
Wanda Maximoff has been one of the franchise's most beloved characters since her introduction but that popularity has only grown since she took up the Scarlet Witch mantle in WandaVision. She's been one of the Multiverse Saga's most influential figures with just two appearances so far, so it would make complete sense for her to be present when it comes to an end.
Yes, no rumor can be completely believed when it comes to Marvel (as, again, anything can happen in the MCU), but we can hold out hope that this is just another sign that the Scarlet Witch is on her way back to us.
