Marvel Studios eyeing renewal of acclaimed Disney+ series

It seems Marvel's days of releasing series with just one season are finally behind us, as an acclaimed project might be back with new episodes.

The first Marvel Cinematic Universe projects released on Disney+ were heavily criticized for feeling like overextended movies as opposed to proper TV series. Many shows were limited to six episodes, and most of them had only one season. However, the superhero giant has slowly but steadily adapted to this type of media, as proved by fan favorites like Daredevil: Born Again and Loki. Notably, there's no better example of an MCU series done right than Wonder Man.

The world fell in love with the tale of Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, two actors trying to make it big in Hollywood. During its release week, Wonder Man reportedly trended at #1 on Disney+ in 69 countries, which isn't surprising considering its more-than-stellar reviews. Marvel struck gold with its latest project, and much to no one's surprise, it seems they might attempt to capture lightning in a bottle once again.

Marvel is reportedly greenlighting Wonder Man season 2

It's time to film a sequel. According to renowned insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel is "very close to greenlighting" a second season of Wonder Man. While the show's recent success and praise make the decision seem like a no-brainer, its future wasn't always so certain.

Back in May 2025, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Marvel would take a wait-and-see approach to determine whether Wonder Man and Ironheart could come back for new episodes. Furthermore, the Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, stated that Simon Williams' stand-alone project would get a second season only if it pulled "big, big [viewership] numbers." Fortunately, it seems that was ultimately the case.

While Wonder Man's fate wasn't clear at first, the creative team behind it had already started to think about where the series could go next, even before its release. During an interview with The Direct, showrunner Andrew Guest revealed his plans for what could await in Simon Williams' future:

"Yeah, so the DODC knows [Simon has powers]. But maybe they don't want to let everyone else know it. Maybe there's a deal to be worked out between Simon and the DODC, where there's a little trade-off going on.’ We could figure it. We can square this circle, given the opportunity."

Marvel has changed its approach to making TV shows in recent years. While it has become very common to wait multiple years to get a new season of any series, the superhero giant is attempting to be an exception to that rule. Daredevil: Born Again will have yearly releases (with a third season already in the cards), while Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will closely follow behind with a second season this year. With that in mind, there's a chance that Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery will get back to the screen earlier than expected.

With a bit of luck, it won't be long before Marvel makes an official announcement regarding a potential second season of Wonder Man. We could even get the series during the last year of the MCU's Multiverse Saga, as a nice palate cleanser before Avengers: Secret Wars comes our way. But even if that doesn't happen, let's hope we get to see Simon and Trevor back in another superhero project sooner rather than later.
