Even if this beloved character wasn't mentioned in the official Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, a report suggests he won't miss out on the adventure.

Back in 2019, audiences witnessed the biggest crossover ever in the form of Avengers: Endgame. Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled one last time to do the impossible and restore half of the life in the universe while putting Thanos's mad tyranny to an end. But for as exciting as it was to see the culmination of the first chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, very few could've guessed that the Avengers wouldn't come together until seven years later. Fortunately, it appears the wait will be worth it.

To say that excitement levels are through the roof about Marvel's next crossover would be an understatement. The cast announcement for the movie alone gathered over 275 million views, even if it was simply a five-hour livestream showcasing a few chairs with actors' names on them. Fans were eager to discover who would join the fight against Doctor Doom and, much to everyone's surprise, the X-Men are at the center of the spotlight. Professor X, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and many more Mutants are set to make a big comeback next year. But even with that, we can't deny that some big names were noticeably missing.

On the bright side, Kevin Feige has confirmed that the full cast for Avengers: Doomsday hasn't been released yet, which prompts the question: What surprises are being saved until the movie's release? Well, one of them might've made its way online sooner than anticipated, and it's everything we could've hoped for.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday

According to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be back during the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which could result in a very interesting scenario. After all, chances are that we'll see the version of the character introduced during the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, who was indirectly responsible not only for the death of the X-Men but also for humans turning against the mutant kind in his world. He believes Scott, Jean, Beast, and Storm are all gone because of him, and now he could have a chance of seeing some of them once again (or, at least, versions of them from a different universe). It could be a shocking reunion not only for fans but for Logan himself as well. The only question remaining is: How will all these characters come together?

During the post-credits scene of The Marvels, audiences witnessed how Monica Rambeau accidentally winded up in a different reality altogether — one where Mutants exist. And how do we know that? Because Kelsey Grammer's Beast stole the spotlight during this entire sequence, and he also referenced other heroes such as Professor X. Unfortunately, the more time Monica spends on this new Earth, the more she risks causing an incursion with her home universe, the MCU. Both realities could clash with one another, giving a chance for all of these different characters to finally share the big screen (even if it isn't under the friendliest of circumstances). The one big unknown is how Wolverine could tie into the story.

At the moment, it's unknown if the universe seen in the post-credits scene of The Marvels is the same as the one in which both Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine take place. However, it seems very unlikely, given that Charles Xavier is alive in the former but dead in the latter. So the only way for Wolverine to cross paths with characters from the MCU and from the Earth where Monica is trapped is if all these three different realities take part in one big incursion. After all, Wade Wilson could've unknowingly weakened the barriers between his homeworld and The Sacred Timeline, given that he spent time in both places (similar to the situation Monica now finds herself in).

With that in mind, three different Earths could clash in one big apocalyptic event, and only one could remain unscratched once the dust settles (as it usually happens in incursions). In a way, Avengers: Doomsday could play out like an Avengers vs. X-Men movie, with three different teams looking to save their respective reality amidst a big apocalyptic event. If that's the case, then Wolverine would be put in a very difficult situation. He'd be forced to choose between fighting for the survival of the world he's currently living in alongside Deadpool, or attempting to undo the mistakes of his past by siding with the rest of the X-Men and fighting for their home. It could make for a very complicated yet compelling arc that would make Logan a key player in Avengers: Doomsday (which is what everyone wants).

There must be a reason why such a big character like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was introduced in an MCU movie just ahead of the big crossovers. Fingers crossed it won't be long before we finally figure out if there will be more to his story or not.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
