Two Marvel veterans confirm they won't be in Spider-Man 4 amidst speculation

Even if rumors suggested these big Marvel Veterans were going to appear in Spider-Man 4, that isn't going to be the case according to the actors themselves.

For more than three years now, we've been living a real-life adaptation of Spider-Man: No More! Tom Holland's iteration of the wall-crawler was last seen back in 2021 during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and then completely disappeared from the public eye. On the bright side, the wait for his return is getting shorter and shorter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is staging a big comeback for one of its most popular heroes, and all eyes are set on Spider-Man 4 to create an engaging story capable of surpassing all expectations. The only problem? We know very little (if anything) about what the movie will be about.

Sony Japan issued a now-deleted press release that teased Tom Hardy's Venom will make an appearance. Furthermore, Tom Holland said that the film's script is excellent even if it needs a bit more work. But aside from those "official" statements we only got a few reports to go by, and one of the most prevailing indicated that Spider-Man 4 was going to include Daredevil and Kingpin at some point.

Unfortunately, it seems that ultimately isn't the case as confirmed by Wilson Fisk himself.

Daredevil and Kingpin won't be in Spider-Man 4

During an interview with Adam Barnhardt, via Meltdown Press, Vincent D'Onofrio confirmed he and Charlie Cox won't reprise their roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk during the events of Spider-Man 4. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the two street-level heroes join forces on the big screen.

"Well, for you, we're not. You can ask that because we're not in Spider-Man 4, or at least nobody has told me that we are."

There's no denying that Spider-Man: No Way Home was an absolutely fantastic movie, even if it wasn't completely bulletproof. However many fans are eager for a more grounded storyline after watching Peter Parker star in a multiversal adventure filled with other iconic characters. Besides, Deadpool & Wolverine proved that the right superhero team-up can completely make a theatrical movie a hit. So it seemed like the ideal move to allow the web-slinger and The Man Without Fear to come together to stop the Kingpin of crime now that he's the Mayor of New York and planning to outlaw all vigilantes in the city.

During the second episode of Daredevil: Born Again, Fisk directly acknowledged Spider-Man by saying New York doesn't need someone "who dresses in a spider outfit" to keep it safe. Besides, Matt and Peter briefly crossed paths during the events of No Way Home, even if neither of them had their superhero costumes on. With that in mind, it feels like Marvel is slowly building towards a bigger and greater crossover. So even if it doesn't wind up happening in Spider-Man 4, perhaps it could come further down the line.

Renowned superhero insider, Alex Perez, has stated that once Avengers: Secret Wars premieres and The Multiverse Saga comes to an end, Marvel and Sony will look to bring Spidey back to basics. No more multiversal adventures, but street-level crusades. Furthermore, it's reported that Spider-Man 5 will be a direct adaptation of the Devil's Reign storyline — an arc that has already started to take shape in the MCU thanks to Daredevil: Born Again.

If Wilson Fisk is really trying to hunt every superhero in the city, that would put him at odds with big characters such as Punisher, Daredevil, and Spidey at the very least. So it isn't too far-fetched to assume they all could eventually cross paths. Besides, Peter and Matt have a very close friendship in comic book pages, meaning it's all the more likely for that relationship to be adapted on the big screen — especially now that the former has no close friends or relatives anymore.

It might be disappointing to learn that the long-awaited crossover won't happen in Spider-Man 4, but there's still a slight chance for these characters to cross paths in 2026 during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. And if everything else fails, then perhaps Spider-Man 5 is shaping up to be the movie to finally shine the spotlight on Daredevil, Kingpin, and Spider-Man at the same time.

Spider-Man 4 will be released on July 31, 2026.
